OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 25) – Four drivers picked up wins Wednesday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway while four other drivers claimed 2010 track titles on Pepsi Season Championships Night.

In the USRA Hobby Stocks, Andy Coleman won his career-first main event at the Mahaska County Monster by holding off 11th-starting Kris Walker of Oskaloosa at the finish line. Steve Allen of Oskaloosa, Eldon’s Craig Brown and Donavon Nunnikhoven of Sully rounded out the top five.

Walker also finished second in the final points standings – three points behind Derek Kirkland of Centerville who claimed his first track championship. A win Wednesday night would have given Walker the crown. Allen, Coleman and Danny Thrasher of Agency finished third through fifth in the final standings.

Bill Gibson of Knoxville rolled to victory in the Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mod 15-lap feature race. A.J. Johnson of New Sharon took runner-up honors, Andrew Schroeder of Keswick was third, Jason McDaniel of Eldon finished fourth and Oskaloosa’s Tyler Groenendyk ran fifth.

With his fifth-place finish, Groenendyk secured his second straight track championship in the Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods. McDaniel wound up second in the final standings, followed by Curtis Van Der Wal of Oskaloosa, Gibson and Keswick’s Mike Wanders.

Shane Weller of Agency picked up another win in the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car main event with Nathan Wood of Keswick scoring a second-place finish. Dart Iron Man Challenge points leader Mike Van Genderen of Newton was third and Oskaloosa pilots Kyle Harwood and Brian Sterling finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the final USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car rankings, Wood racked up his second straight track championship after winning last year’s USRA Hobby Stock title. Van Genderen wound up second behind Wood and Weller was third. Harwood ended up fourth in final points and Rich Vogt of Fairfield claimed the fifth spot.

Webster’s Colt Mather ran down polesitter Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon and ran away to score the win in the 20-lap Musco USRA Modified nightcap. Nine-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile brought a new 2011 Skyrocket Chassis to Osky and finished third. Scott Dickey of Packwood got fourth and Oskaloosa’s Steven Blattler was fifth.

Although Dickey beat him to the checkered flag, Blattler bested Dickey in the final points tally to win his first track championship at the Southern Iowa Speedway. Ron Ver Beek of Oskaloosa finished third in the final rundown, Josh Truman of Indianola took fourth and Ankeny’s David Ott rounded out the top five in the final points standings for the Musco USRA Modifieds.

Next Wednesday, Sept. 1, the Southern Iowa Speedway will host the 7th Annual Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Challenge as part of The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Championship plus the Dart Iron Man Challenge for USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars. The USMTS Modifieds will be battling for a $3,000 top prize while the full-fendered stock cars go for $600 to win.

Also on tap will be Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks racing for national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series. With 21 or more entries, each division will race for $300 to win and $60 to start.

Pits open at 5:00, grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps begin at 7:15 and racing starts at 7:30.

The Southern Iowa Speedway is a half-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.5 mile west of US 63 on SR 92, then 0.3 mile north on I St. (at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds).
