24th Annual Musco Lighting Fall Challenge this Friday-Saturday at Southern Iowa Speedway

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Oct. 7) – The Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, is readying for one final extravaganza to end the 2010 season with a bang as the “Mahaska County Monster” comes alive for the 24th Annual Musco Lighting Fall Challenge presented by Budweiser this Friday and Saturday, October 8-9.

Last year’s event saw 172 drivers pack the Osky pits on a cold and blustery opening day, but snow covered the ground the following morning and forced officials to postpone the finale to Halloween afternoon where weather again forced a move to Nov. 8.

No weather worries this year, however, as the National Weather Service is calling for perfect conditions for drivers and fans with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s forecasted all weekend.

With Mother Nature’s cooperation, race organizers are expecting to eclipse the record field of 196 cars and drivers that filled the Southern Iowa Speedway in 2008 where fans were treated to 24 heat races, eight “B” mains and four thrilling “A” mains with nearly 400 laps of racing on the half-mile clay oval.

Nearly $60,000 is up for grabs, including $1,000 to win on Friday and $2,000 to win on Saturday for each of the four classes: Musco USRA Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks.

Fans will enjoy a complete show each night. All drivers will draw on Friday and Saturday for starting position, and will re-draw each night for feature race starting positions.

National points will be awarded each night in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series, but a USRA license is not required to compete in this event. With tight points battles emerging, nearly every one of the top-10 drivers in each class are expected as officials are readying the pit areas for an expected 150 cars or more.

On Friday, pits gates open at 4:00, grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps are at 7:00 and racing starts at 7:30.

Pit gates will open at 1:00 on Saturday, with grandstands opening at 2:00. Hot laps are slated for 5:00 and the first green flag waves at 5:30.

Adult grandstand tickets are only $12 on Friday and $15 on Saturday, with kids ages 6 to 12 getting in for $3 Friday and $5 Saturday. Pit passes are $30 each day. Children under 6 are always admitted free of charge at the Southern Iowa Speedway.

All seats are general admission, so fans are encouraged to get there early to avoid lines and get the best seat in the house.

Camping sites with hook-ups are available at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds.

Early entry fee is $75 for all drivers in each class. The entry fee at the track on race day is $125. The entry fee covers both days of racing.

Entry forms and fees must be received in the RL Promotions office by 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 7. Competitors may download an entry form at www.rlpromotions.com/fallchallenge.pdf or call 515-832-7944 to register by phone.

The purse each night is the same for each class.
