Southern Iowa Speedway launches 2011 racing season Wednesday

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (May 17) - Another exciting season of Wild Wednesday night racing action kicks off this Wednesday, May 18, at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with the season opener for the USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring Musco USRA Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks.

Pit gate opens at 5 p.m., spectator tickets go on sale at 5:30, hot laps begin at 7:15 and racing at the Mahaska County Monster starts at 7:30.

In addition to Osky’s weekly purse that rivals most tracks in Iowa and the surrounding states, the region’s fastest and most talented drivers will be battling all season-long for lucrative track and national points funds in all four divisions as part of the USRA Weekly Racing Series.

In order to be eligible for track points funds, a driver must have competed in at least 50% of the events held at the track. Track points funds are not based on an individual racetrack’s weekly purse or car counts, but rather are guaranteed amounts based on 16 nights of USRA-sanctioned competition.

In addition to track points funds which are among the highest in the county, the USRA will also dole out a national points fund of more than $60,000 in four classes. The USRA Weekly Racing Series national champion in the Modified division will earn $10,000 while $1,500 is posted for both the Stock Car and Hobby Stock national champions while the B-Mod national champ will pocket $2,000.

On Wednesday, May 25, the high-flying mud-slinging Modifieds of the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy return for the 10th Annual Spring Challenge. Joining the USMTS Modifieds will be the USRA Iron Man Challenge for Stock Cars and B-Mods plus USRA Hobby Stocks.

Defending track champions at the Southern Iowa Speedway are Steven Blattler of Oskaloosa (Musco USRA Modifieds), Nathan Wood of Keswick (USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars), Tyler Groenendyk of Oskaloosa (Carter’s Manufacturing USRA B-Mods) and Derek Kirkland of Centerville (USRA Hobby Stocks).
