EXCITING SEASON OPENER AT SOUTHERN IOWA SPEEDWAY WELL WORTH
THE WAIT

OSKALOOSA, IA (May18,
2011) - A long awaited season opener at Southern Iowa Speedway was picture
perfect. With the weather in the lower 70’s you couldn’t ask mother-nature
for much better night for racing action at the Mahaska County Monster
half-mile.
The first feature was the
Carter Mfg. USRA B-Modifieds with local young driver Carter Vandenberg
leading the field from the green till the final corner when Vandenberg got
the pressure and Knoxville driver Bill Gibson made the pass on the final
corner on the final lap to spoil the young racers thunder. Gibson took the
win with Vandenberg in the runner-up spot. The other excitement came when
Andrew Schroeder of Keswick raced his 02 machine from 19th to a
third place finish. He used the bottom of the racing surface to make the
passes. The fourth spot went to Mike Shelton of Bloomfield.
In the second feature of
the night the Karl Chevrolet USRA stock cars thrilled the fans with two,
three and even four wide racing. The true battle came with only four laps
remaining with Shane Weller of Agency holding of several challenges from
Nathan wood of Sigourney along with Jason Minnehan of Churdhan and the
Killen brothers of Des Moines. All tried to find a way past the Weller
machine but Weller was to tough. The runner-up spot went to Nathan Wood and
the third spot went to Randy Killen and Minnehan taking fourth but had heavy
damage after contact with a inside tire barrier.
In the USRA hobby stock
feature Danny Sacquitne of Decorah made the long pull payoff racing his
number 6 machine from 9th to take his first win at the Mahaska
County Monster. Sacquitne made the pass with four laps remaining over Beacon
driver Jim Hughes who took a second place finish and Craig Brown of Eldon in
third and Oskaloosa driver Steve allen taking the fourth spot.
In the high powered Musco
Lighting USRA A-modifieds Nate Caruth of Ames paced the field for the first
8laps but a early race caution would close the field up on the rear bumber
of Caruths machine and just two laps later Colt Mather of Webster would
power his 8 machine into the lead and never look back. This was Colt’s third
win in the new 2011 chassie. The second spot went to Caruth and the battle
for third went to Packwood racer Scott Dickey and fourth to former track
champion Steven blattler of Oskaloosa.

Manufacturing USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks.Pits open at 5:00,
grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps begin at 7:15 and racing starts at
7:30.Tickets are $17 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and children ages 5
and under always get in for free. Pit passes are $30.
