Rob Toland Takes Deery Brothers Summer Series Opener At Quincy
By Jack Walbring

Quincy, Illinois (April 9, 2006) - Rob Toland opened his 2006 racing season with a big win in the first IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, April 9 over a field stout field of forty two cars. Toland started the night off with a win in his heat race then drew a second row starting spot for the fifty lap main event. Toland slid into the lead coming off turn four on the first lap and pulled to a small lead lead until the field closed up on a restart on the sixth lap.

Toland then held the top spot until the yellow came out for a multiple car incident on an eighth lap restart. Brian Kenning, Tom Darbyshire, Darrel DeFrance, Terry Gallaher and Darin Duffy all had to retire to the pits as the field stacked up going to the green flag for the restart. Toland then cruised in the lead until the twentieth lap when Eric Gustaf pulled into the lead on the bottom of turn one. Gustof looked like he might just have the race in control but a lap twenty three caution for metal on the racing surface would spell doom for the Quad City racer. Gustaf’s car would suffer mechanical problems on the restart giving the lead back to Toland. Toland then kept the rest of the field at bay to take the $2000 win.

Jeff Aikey would come from the fifth row to score second followed by Greg Kastli in third, Mark Burgtorf in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Jay Johnson, Toland, Boone McLaughlin, Terry Neal and Woodworth would score the heat race wins with Thad Trump and Colby Springsteen taking the top spots in the twin B-Mains.

Vance Wilson would score the feature event win in the first ever IMCA Modified main event at Quincy Raceways. Wilson grabbed the win over Jim Gillenwater in second, Tony Dunker in third, David Weitholder in fourth and Ted Allen in fifth. Henry Delonjay, Allen and Danny Lake were the heat race winners with Wilson earning the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Eddie Dieker would continue with his winning ways as the 2005 Track Champion won the Bomber feature event. Dieker would battle with Adam Birck throughout the event but took the win by two car lengths at the checkered flag. Birck settled for second with Jerry Jansen in third, Steve Carlin in fourth and Dusty Bingaman in fifth. Carlin and Kale Foster were the heat race winners.

Brandon Fennel of Fulton, Mo. made the long haul pay off as he took the feature event win in the Hornet division. Fennel took the win over Steven Delonjay in second, James Leffew in third, Darren Morgan in fourth and William Lothridge in fifth. Joel Kerr and Delonjay were the heat race winners.

The next event at Quincy Raceways will be the Weekly Racing Series with the IMCA Late Models running a Draw/Re-Draw event as the late model points start on April 30. The IMCA Modifieds, Bombers and Hornets points season start on April 16. The gates open at 4 with hot laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm.
