Burgtorf, Foster, Burgtorf and Woodhurst Take Quincy Checkers
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, Il. (June 11, 2006) - Mark Burgtorf, Josh Foster, Matt Burgtorf and Sarah Woodhurst all picked up feature event wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday night during Terrible’s Mark Twain Casino Night at the Races.

The Budweiser IMCA Late Model field had a very large contingent of twenty six entries, the most in recent memory necessitating a consolation event. Joey Gower grabbed the lead of the main event at the drop of the green flag and looked like he was on a mission to take the victory. Gower survived several restarts in the lead including one on the second lap for Ron Elbe’s rollover in turn three. Elbe was uninjured but his car was damaged significantly. Gower pulled out a comfortable lead until a caution flag flew again on the twenty first lap. Mark Burgtorf had been working his way into the second spot from his sixth row starting spot by the eighteenth lap and looked like he might not have enough to catch the fleet Gower but with the caution flag, Burgtorf got his chance and made good use of it as he blasted past Gower on the high side coming off turn two on the twenty first lap restart. Burgtorf pulled away to take his third points win of the season. Gower settled for second with Kevin Tomlinson in third, Lonnie Bailey in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Tomlinson, Burgtorf and Gower all claimed heat race wins with Tom Darbyshire taking the win in both the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash as well as the B-Main.

Josh Foster made a shambles of the twenty car Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature event. Foster took the lead on the sixth lap of the twenty five lapper and was never seriously challenged on his way to his fourth points win of the year at Quincy in seven starts. Danny Lake won the battle for the second spot with Tony Dunker grabbing third, David Weitholder fourth and Terry Houston fifth. Henry Delonjay, Bill Parks and Lake were the heat race winners while Robbie Reed took home the hardware and cash in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Matt Burgtorf put on a dominating performance in the bomber main event as he led the entire twenty lap affair. Burgtorf won over Adam Birck in second, Larry Powell in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Steve Carlin in fifth. Burgtorf, Kale Foster, Burgtorf and Bruce Hatfield were the heat race winners.

Sarah Woodhurst took the main event win in the Hornet division by leading from green to checkered. James Leffew settled for second with Levi Long in third, Steven DeLonjay in fourth and Bill Winkle in fifth. Jake Powers and Woodhurst were the heat race winners.
