Weisenberger Takes Dominating Win at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, ILL (Aug. 13, 2006) - Jerry Weisenberger, David Wietholder, Adam Birck
and James Leffew all took feature events wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday,
August 13 during Fan Appreciation Night sponsored by Budweiser/Rinella
Distributing Company. The racing action was as good as it has ever been with the
final checkered flag falling at 9:04pm.
Nick Ingalls took off into the lead of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model thirty lap
main event and held the top spot until fifth lap when he lost control coming off
turn two giving the lead to Keith Pratt. Pratt maintained the lead for the next
five laps but Jerry Weisenberger was charging hard through the field from his
fourth row starting spot and blasted past Pratt on lap ten to get the lead.
Weisenberger then put on a dominating show as he worked his way through back
markers putting distance between him and the rest of the field. Joey Gower and
Mark Burgtorf tried in vain to catch the fleet Weisenberger but both were unable
to narrow the gap to the leader. Weisenberger maintained more than a full
straightway lead at the checkered flag followed by Gower in second and Burgtorf
in third. Lonnie Bailey and Pratt rounded out the top five with Weisenberger,
Ingalls and Gower taking the checkered flags in the heat races. Gower took home
the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Mark Burgtorf
wrapped up yet another Budweiser IMCA Late Model Track Points Championship with
his third place finish with two points races yet to be run.
Joe Blivens has had a really unlucky year in the Miller Lite IMCA Modified
division but it looked like he may be getting some of the luck back but not all
of it. Blivens took the lead of the twenty five lap main event at the drop of
the green flag and paced the field until David Wietholder charge through the
field put him on Blivens bumper on a lap twelve restart. Blivens and Wietholder
battled side by side over the next few laps exchanging the lead several times as
Blivens held tough on the high line and Wietholder working the bottom.
Wietholder finally made a pass stick coming off turn two on lap twenty one and
pulled into the lead for good taking the checkered flag for the second time this
season. Robbie Reed snuck by Blivens for second with Blivens settling for third
followed by Robbie Carter in fourth and David Holder in fifth. Blivens and
Holder were the heat race winners with Jeff Waterman grabbing the win in the P&S
Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Henry DeLonjay could only muster a
tenth place finish allowing Robbie Reed to close the points race gap to five
markers, 612 to 607 with four more points races left.
Adam Birck has been on a mission lately to narrow the point’s gap between
himself and Steve Carlin in the Bomber division and it continued Sunday night
with Birck using ten laps to get into the lead from his fifth row starting spot
of the twenty lap main event. Birck then held off Carlin to take his sixth
point’s win of the year with Carlin in second, Dusty Bingaman in third, Jerry
Jansen in fourth and Clint Royer in fifth. Carlin and Aaron Brocksieck were the
heat race winners. Carlin now holds a slim ten point margin over Birck with four
events left.
Steven DeLonjay took his fifth feature event win of the season in the Hornet
division after a real battle between four drivers in the fifteen lapper.
DeLonjay held onto a slim lead over the last half of the event followed closely
by Sarah Woodhurst in the second spot, James Leffew in third, Toby Long in
fourth and Levi Long in fifth. DeLonjay now holds a very slim four point margin
over Leffew in the battle for the first ever Hornet Track Points Championship.
