Burgtorf Races to Ninth Win at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, ILL. (Aug. 20, 2006) - Mark Burgtorf, Robbie Carter, Jarrod Richie and Steven Delonjay all earned feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, August 20 during Yellow Book/International Eyewear Night at the Races.

It took Mark Burgtorf twenty laps to get to the front of the field in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event but when he did, he pulled away to a quarter lap lead to take his ninth points win and his eleventh feature win overall for the 2006 season at Quincy. Kevin Tomlinson took the early lead and held on until Robbie Warner took over on the ninth lap. Warner then paced the field until Brian Kenning took the lead on lap seventeen. Burgtorf had moved into fourth by that time from his sixth row starting spot and kept up his march to the front, getting by Warner and Kenning over the next three laps taking the checkered flag by a wide margin. Joey Gower climbed into the second spot by the checkered flag, followed by Denny Woodworth in third, Kenning in fourth and Jerry Weisenberger in fifth. Burgtorf made it a clean sweep for the night by winning his heat and the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Weisenberger and Tomlinson also won heat races. Burgtorf wrapped up yet another points championship last week but the race for the rest of the top ten spots is still in doubt as Denny Woodworth holds a slim six point margin over Jerry Weisenberger for the second spot. The Budweiser IMCA Late Model Season Championship race will be on tap next week as the points season winds down for the division.

The Miller Lite IMCA Modified feature event was a yellow flag filled time limited event with Robbie Carter taking home the top spot after only nine laps being completed of the scheduled twenty five. The final lap found the caution flag fly five times before the time limit was declared giving Carter the win followed by Jeff Waterman in second, Joe Blivens in third, Terry Houston in fourth and Kendall Groves in fifth. Danny Lake, Robbie Reed and Henry DeLonjay were the heat race winners. DeLonjay exited the main event on the second lap and finished in the twentieth spot allowing Robbie Reed to take over the lead in the points chase by eight points over DeLonjay.

The Bomber main event found Jarrod Richie in first at the checkered flag, his third feature win of the year. Richie took the win over Steve Carlin in second, Adam Birck in third, Bruce Hatfield in fourth and Marcus Saxbury in fifth. Josh Meyers, Travis Booher and Todd Riechert were the heat race winners. Carlin now holds a slim nine point advantage over Adam Birck in his quest for his second points championship.

Steven DeLonjay and James Leffew put on quite a show in the Hornet feature event as the two youngsters battled it out for the lead throughout the fifteen lap affair. DeLonjay took the checkered flag by two car lengths over Leffew followed by Jake Powers in third, Bill Winkle in fourth and Taylor Lear in fifth. Levin Long took the win in the Hornet heat race. DeLonjay now holds a tiny four point advantage over Leffew in the chase for the first Hornet Track Points Championship.

This next Sunday, August 27 will be Season Championship night for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models as well as the annual Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash Shootout for the late models. Also on tap will be the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash Finale for the Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds. Gates open at 4 with hot laps at 6 and racing at 6:30pm.
