Bailey Grabs Quincy IMCA Late Model Win
by: Jack Walbring

QUINCY, IL (May 13) - Lonnie Bailey, Henry DeLonjay, Steve Carlin and Steven DeLonjay all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, May 13 during Gem City Ford/Mothers Night at the Races.

Lonnie Bailey took the lead of the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event on the eleventh lap from Robbie Warner and held off the challenges of Justin Reed and Warner over the final laps to claim his first feature win of the season. Bailey started the event in the sixth spot and used eleven laps to pull into the top spot. Baileys win propelled him into a slim one point lead over Denny Woodworth and two makers over Mark Burgtorf. Warner had to settle for the second spot followed by Reed in third, Mark Burgtorf in fourth and Brian Kenning in fifth. Woodworth, Kevin Tomlinson and Warner grabbed heat race victories with Woodworth taking the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Veteran Modified driver, Jim Roach jumped into the early lead of the Main Event for the Miller Lite Modifieds and held on until Michael Long charged by on the sixth lap. Long then looked to be well on his way to yet another win but Henry DeLonjay had other ideas. DeLonjay grabbed the top spot on the twelfth circuit setting up a battle royal to the checkered flag. Long pressured DeLonjay on the high side for the rest of the twenty lap distance pulling past DeLonjay for the lead on the straights but DeLonjay would always regain the advantage in the turns. DeLonjay held off Long’s final challenge on the last lap with Long coming up a car length short at the finish line followed by Brandon Lennox, Tony Dunker and Robbie Reed. Joe Hooper, DeLonjay and Joe Blivens took the heat race wins with Reed taking home the hardware in the Advance Trading Tony Dunker Trophy Dash. Chris Spalding took the win in the B-Main event.

Sara Woodhurst looked like she had finally found the handle on her new Hobby Stock in the feature event as she lead for the first five circuits, but it just wasn’t going to be her night as she looped the eight ball car in turn two on the sixth lap giving the top spot over to Steve Carlin. Carlin would then battle the remaining laps with Michael Lay to take a narrow victory over Lay. The third spot went to Todd Reichert followed by Aaron Brocksieck in fourth and James Leffew in fifth. Carlin and Brocksieck were the heat race winners.

Steven DeLonjay took the Hornet Feature win in a dominating fashion by leading all fifteen circuits. DeLonjay won over Levi Long in second, Cody Griggs in third, Jordon DeLonjay Rice in fourth and Brandon Lambert in fifth. Long and DeLonjay were the heat race winners.
