Pratt Dominates Quincy IMCA Late Models at Quincy
by: Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (May 20) - Keith Pratt, Henry DeLonjay, Steve Carlin and Jordon
DeLonjay Rice all took feature event wins during the Budweiser/Rinella
Distributing/Insight Media Night at the Races on Sunday, May 20.
Keith Pratt picked up his first Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event win
proving his new engine combination was a real winner. Pratt had suffered
overheating problems through the early part of the season and upon examining his
engine, he found that a cracked block was the culprit of his problems. Pratt
took the lead away from Matt Bailey on the seventh lap and pulled to a small but
comfortable lead over the next few laps. Brian Kenning tried in vain to catch
Pratt after getting into the second spot on lap fourteen but was unable to mount
the necessary charge to derail Pratt’s efforts to pick up his first Budweiser
IMCA Late Model feature event win. Kenning was forced to settle for the second
spot followed closely by Mark Burgtorf in third, Billy Genenbacher in fourth and
Matt Bailey in fifth. Burgtorf, Denny Woodworth and Pratt were the heat race
winners while Burgtorf claimed the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy
Dash.
The new race format of only twenty cars starting the main event seems to have
brought some sanity to the Miller Lite Modified division as only four caution
flags slowed the twenty five lap main event. Dave Wietholder paced the field for
the first eighteen circuits with Henry DeLonjay putting the pressure on
Wietholder for the top spot from lap fourteen to eighteen. DeLonjay finally
found the right groove to sneak past for the lead on the nineteenth lap.
DeLonjay claimed his second consecutive feature event win by holding Michael
Long off until the checkered flag. Long settled for the second spot followed by
Wietholder in third, Joe Blivens in fourth and Tony Dunker in fifth. Les
Harding, Dunker and Wietholder were the heat race winners with Robbie Reed
scoring the win in the Advance Trading Tony Dunker Trophy Dash.
Bobby Anders took the early lead in the Hobby Stock main event but the red flag
brought the action to a stop on the third lap as Anders slid over the banking
coming off turn two and slammed into the back stretch retaining fence. Anders
was transported to a local hospital complaining of back and neck pain. As this
is being written, there has been no report as to the extent of his injuries.
Matt Burgtorf took over the lead when the green flag flew after the caution and
stayed in the lead until the fourteenth lap when Steve Carlin blasted past to
take over the lead. Burgtorf tried in vain to retake the lead but had to settle
second with Travis Booher in third, Todd Reichert in fourth and Sarah Woodhurst
in fifth. Woodhurst, Aaron Brocksieck and Burgtorf took the heat race wins. It
had been rumored all night that an engine protest was going to happen after the
Hobby Stock feature. Steve Carlin’s engine was protested and was torn down to
inspection and found to be fully legal. Carlin then received his first place
check as well as the Protest money.
Jordan DeLonjay Rice took his first ever Hornet feature event win over cousin,
Steven DeLonjay second. Levi Long scored third followed by Joe Gollaher in
fourth and Zack Bruenger in fifth. Rice and Joe Gollaher were the heat race
winners.
