Sam Halstead Takes Quincy Raceways IMCA Late Model Win Before
Rain Washes Away Two Features
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (June 3) - Sam Halstead and Levi Long took feature event wins at
Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 3, 2007 before rain stopped the action during
Page Auto Center Night at the Races.
Halstead made good use of the pole position start of the thirty lap Budweiser
IMCA Late Model feature and led every lap on his way to his first feature win at
Quincy this season. Halstead was never seriously challenged as he guided his new
CJ Rayburn to the win a feature event that went non stop from green to checker.
Mark Burgtorf rallied for the second spot from his sixth row starting spot but
still came up eight tenths of a second short of the top spot. The third through
fifth positions went to Dustin Neese, Lonnie Bailey and Jerry Weisenberger.
Halstead, Burgtorf and Denny Woodworth grabbed the heat race wins with Lonnie
Bailey taking home the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. The
rains started to fall as Halstead celebrated his win in victory lane.
Levi Long took the feature event win in the Hornet division after the field was
thinned by a multitude of accidents. Long led the way to the checkered flag
followed by Tony Shankle, Jordan DeLonjay Rice, Zack Bruenger and Glen Wiley.
Jordan DeLonjay Rice and Lew Aikman took the heat race wins.
The Hobby Stock heat wins went to James Leffew, Steve Carlin and Todd Reichert
while the rough and tumble Miller Lite Modifieds heats went to Tony Dunker, Joe
Hooper and Michael Long. Henry DeLonjay won the Advance Trading Tony Dunker
Trophy Dash while Ricky Frankel scored the win in the B-Main. The Hornets and
the Miller Lite Modifieds will see double features this next Sunday night, June
10 to make up their rain delayed features.
Quincy Raceways will be a very busy place for the next couple of weeks as
Wednesday, June 6 will see the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders take on the
quarter mile along with the Miller Lite Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. Sunday, June
10 will be Mark Twain Terrible’s Casino Beach Night at the races with a complete
show as well as the make up features for the Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. , June
12 will be the annual NASCAR Night at the Races featuring Kenny Schrader and
Kenny Wallace plus you just never know who they might bring with them to Quincy
