Dustin Neese Takes IMCA Late Model Win at Quincy
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL. (June 17) - Dustin Neese, David Wietholder, Steve Carlin and Lew
Aikman all picked up feature event wins during Ursa Farmers Coop Night at the
Races.
Terry Gallaher and Ron Elbe sat on the front row of the thirty lap Budweiser
IMCA Late Model main event with Gallaher being scored in the lead after one
circuit but Joey Gower powered by to take over the top spot on the second lap.
Gower then proceeded to set the pace in the lead until lap twenty six. Dustin
Neese had stayed within striking distance and slipped past Gower for the lead
and took home his first feature win of the season at the checkered flag. Mark
Burgtorf charged home in second after starting in the sixth row followed by
Gower in third, Sam Halstead in fourth and Ron Elbe in fifth. Neese also scored
first in his heat race with Burgtorf and Gower taking the other two heat race
wins. Burgtorf also took the top spot in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy
Dash win.
David Wietholder had looked real fast during the first part of the season at
Quincy Raceways in the Miller Lite Modifieds but bad luck or mechanical problems
have kept him out of victory lane until Sunday night. Wietholder inherited the
lead on the sixth circuit of the scheduled twenty five lap main event as
numerous caution flags flew on lap six. Wietholder made good use of his good
luck on lap six and held off Michael Long to get his first feature win of the
season. Long settled for second followed by Henry DeLonjay in third, David
Holder in fourth and Robbie Reed in fifth. Bob Woodrow, DeLonjay and Shawn
Deering grabbed heat race wins while DeLonjay scored the hardware and cash in
the Advance Trading Tony Dunker Trophy Dash.
Steve Carlin proved that his streak of bad luck had ended as he grabbed the lead
of the Hobby Stock main event on the eleventh lap of the twenty lapper and
powered to a convincing feature event win. Carlin scored the win over Travis
Kelle in second, Aaron Brocksieck in third, Jerrod Richie in fourth and Sarah
Woodhurst in fifth. Todd Reichert and Kelle were the heat race winners.
Lew Aikman made it look easy as he led every lap of the fifteen lap Hornet
feature event. Steven DeLonjay rallied at the end of the event to take the
second spot followed by Levi Long in third, Jordan DeLonjay Rice in fourth and
Bill Winkle in fifth. Aikman and Winkle were the heat race winners.
Coming up next at Quincy Raceways will be the annual Pepsi Mid-Season
Championship on Sunday, June 24 featuring trophies to the top three finishers in
each class. Gates open at 4 with hot laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm. Call the
