Gallaher Claims Pepsi Mid-Season Championship at Quincy
Raceways
by: Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (June 24) - Terry Gallaher, Michael Long, Steve Carlin and Lew Aikman
all took Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on
Sunday, June 24.
Veteran Terry Gallaher has slowly been working his way out of an early season
slump and Sunday night he blasted his way into victory lane to pick up a huge
win. Gallaher battled throughout the thirty lap main event with Nick Ingalls
with not more than a car length separating the two the entire race. Ingalls
slipped by Gallaher on the high side coming off of turn four to lead the
eighteenth lap by a mere .015 of a second but Gallaher rallied back past Ingalls
as the youngster slipped up going through turn one on the next lap. Gallaher
then held Ingalls at bay at the finish by a car length to grab his first feature
event win this season. Ingalls settled for second followed by Mark Burgtorf in
third, Ron Elbe in fourth and Kevin Tomlinson in fifth. Ingalls and Gallaher
took the heat race wins with Lonnie Bailey laying claim to the win in the Summy
Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Michael Long put on another dominating performance in the Miller Lite Modified
division as he did another clean sweep of his races. Long won his heat, then the
Advance Trading Tony Dunker Trophy Dash and then the twenty five lap Pepsi
Mid-Season Championship. Long started in the sixth row of the main event and
literally blasted into the lead on the fifth lap by passing the top three
leaders after a lap five restart. Henry DeLonjay made a valiant effort to stay
with Long but had to settle for second at the checkered flag. The third spot
went to Jeff Waterman, fourth to Terry Wilson and fifth to Tony Dunker. DeLonjay
and Robbie Carter took the other heat race wins.
Steve Carlin took the Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event win the Hobby
Stock Division in a race that was so dominated by caution flags that it was time
limited to fourteen laps of the scheduled twenty lap length. Carlin won over
Travis Booher in second, Bruce Hatfield in third, Chris Rees in fourth and
Michael Lay in fifth. Aaron Brocksieck and Todd Reichert were the heat race
winners.
Lew Aikman had a dominating Pepsi Mid-Season Championship win in the Hornet
division as he led every lap of the fifteen lapper. Steven DeLonjay had to
settle for the second spot followed by Joe Gollaher in third, Levi Long in
fourth and Jordan DeLonjay Rice in fifth. Bill Winkle and Gollaher were the heat
race winners.
