Burgtorf Scores Again at Quincy Raceways
by: Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (Aug. 5) - Mark Burgtorf, Michael Long, Travis Kelle and Steven
DeLonjay all picked up feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, August 5
during Tim’s Machine Shop Night at the Races.
Robby Warner jumped into the early lead of the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late
Model feature event and pulled to a comfortable lead until the caution flag flew
on the thirteenth circuit bunching up the field on a restart. Warner held the
top spot through the next four laps fending off a battle for the lead from Jason
Frankel and Mark Burgtorf. Frankel slipped high in turn three on the seventeenth
lap giving Mark Burgtorf all the space he needed to challenge and take the lead
away from Warner. Burgtorf then set sail with the lead and held on to take his
fourth points paying feature event win of the season as sparks started coming
from under his Rayburn as he crossed the finish line and the drive shaft came
out of Burgtorf’s car coming to victory lane . Frankel rallied to get the second
spot followed by Jason Perry in third, Warner in fourth and Jerry Weisenberger
in fifth. Joey Gower, Billy Genenbacher and Weisenberger were the heat race
winners while Frankel took the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy
Dash. Burgtorf now holds a commanding seventy three point margin in his quest
for a fourteenth Track Points Championship.
The Miller Lite Modified feature event started out with a whole slew of caution
flags as the open wheel drivers were having a fit trying to get the first lap
into the books. It looked as though the event may have to be time limited to
five laps but the restart on that lap with thirty seconds left on the clock gave
the field all the time they needed to reel off twenty straight caution free laps
to get to the checkered flag. Michael Long had luck on his side again this week
and Henry DeLonjay didn’t as he spun battling to get to the front of the field
and did not stop but the time he lost brought him to almost the end of the
field. Long blasted through the field in short order and took his tenth points
feature win of the season. Joe Blivens had a great showing finishing second
followed by Tony Dunker in third, Robbie Reed in fourth and Jeff Waterman in
fifth. Reed, Frankie Wellman Jr. and Jared Schlipman took the heat race wins
while DeLonjay took the checkered flag in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash. Long
now holds an eleven point margin over DeLonjay in his chase to his first Track
Championship at Quincy.
Travis Kelle took his first ever feature event win in the Hobby Stock Division
during a slam bang twenty lap event. Kelle stayed out front of the field from
the drop of the green flag and calmly held on to the top spot through several
caution periods until the checkered flag fell. Todd Reichert grabbed the second
spot followed by Chris Rees in third, Michael Wiley in fourth and Jarrod Richie
in fifth. Sarah Woodhurst and Aaron Brocksieck took the heat race wins.
Reichert’s second place finish combined with Steve Carlin’s eight place gave
Reichert an eight point margin in the battle.
Steven DeLonjay closed up the points race to one marker by taking the feature
event win in the Hornet division. DeLonjay won over Lew Aikman in second, Levi
Long in third, Jordan DeLonjay Rice in fourth and Bill Winkle in fifth. DeLonjay
and Cousin Jordan took the heat race wins. DeLonjay now trails Long by one point
in the points race with only three points races left.
