Denny Woodworth Takes First Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Model Win By Jack Walbring QUINCY, ILL (April 30) - The Racing Lawyer, Denny Woodworth of Quincy showed up at Quincy Raceways to sign in for the evenings events dressed just the way he was when he left court on Wednesday afternoon. He may just want to show up that way to all his race nights as he had the winning argument in the fifty lap Deery Brothers Summer Series main event for the J&J Steel IMCA Late Models sponsored by Sullivan Auctioneers.. Mike Garland jumped into the early lead of the fifty lapper and looked like he might just be the man to beat, but Woodworth ran Garland down and passed for the lead on the sixth lap. Woodworth then held Garland at bay as he was not going to surrender the top spot easily to Woodworth. Garland stayed within striking distance until Tom Darbyshire worked his way to Garland’s back bumper and Garland had to concentrate on keeping Darbyshire behind him. Darbyshire worked Garland high and low and finally slipped past for the second spot on the thirty eighth lap when Garland found the turn three hole that gave most of the field fits. Darbyshire then pulled away from the fading Garland and set his sights on Woodworth and the lead. Darbyshire closed the gap on Woodworth to even with three laps to go but Woodworth picked up the pace and had a .693 of a second lead when the checkered flag fell on lap fifty. Darbyshire held on for the second spot followed by Mark Burgtorf in third, Garland in fourth and Robby Warner in fifth. Matt Strassheim, Burgtorf, Garland, Ben Nading and Robby Warner took the heat race wins in a field of forty two IMCA Late Models. Terry Neal and Lonnie Bailey grabbed the B-Main wins while Robby Warner claimed the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash win. The pits were astir as the final modified entry showed up for the nights
festivities as Nextel Cup Star Carl Edwards climbed from the tow vehicle to
help a young protégé, Darrell Jones of Columbia, Mo. The pit area seemed to
respect Edwards presence and let the famous driver enjoy his rare night at
the dirt track. Up next at Quincy Raceways will be Mark Twain Casino Night at the Races
on Sunday, May 4. The pit gates open at 4, grandstands at 5 with Hot Laps at
6:00 and racing at 6:30pm Visit Quincy Raceways online at
