Long Takes Two Wins at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, IL (July 6) -  Mark Burgtorf, Michael Long, Jeff Mueller and James Leffew all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways during Advance Trading Night at the Races.

Nick Ingalls took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Budweiser J&J Steel IMCA Late Model feature event and looked like he might just have what it takes to take his first feature win of the year. Ingalls battled with Ron Elbe over the first fourteen laps but fourteen time track champion, Mark Burgtorf had other ideas as he charged through the field from his fifth row starting spot. Burgtorf got by Elbe for second on the fifthteenth lap and started reeling in Ingalls  a couple of tenths on every lap. Burgtorf challenged Ingalls on the top side and made his pass for the lead coming off turn four on lap twenty three but Ingalls was not going to give it up that easily as he battled back to run side by side with Burgtorf over the closing laps, even sneaking ahead of Burgtorf on the twenty eighth lap. Burgtorf keep up the heat and took the lead back on lap twenty nine and held on for the feature event win by a little over a half of a second. Ingalls settled for the second spot followed by Justin Reed in third, Elbe in fourth and Jason Frankel in fifth. Ingalls and Jerry Weisenberger were the heat race winners with Matt Bailey laying claim to the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Jason Frankel now holds a seven point margin over Justin Reed in the points battle.

Michael Long made it another big night at Quincy Raceways as he took home fourteen hundred bucks by capturing his both the Miller Lite Modified feature event win and capturing the win in the $1000 to Win, Advance Trading Rumble on the River special event. Long started the first fifteen lap segment of the Rumble in the last spot and charged through the twelve car field to take the lead from Brandon Lennox on the thirteenth lap. Long lead at the  mid-point of the thirty lapper allowed him to redraw first for the restart position for the second fifteen laps. Long pulled the sixth spot for the restart with David Wietholder drawing the number one spot. Wietholder jumped into the lead at the restart and held Steven DeLonjay at bay until the twenty third circuit. The young DeLonjay got by Wietholder and led until Long took over on lap twenty six. Long then pulled to a six tenths of a second lead when the checkered flag fell on the thirtieth circuit. DeLonjay, Wietholder, Brandon Lennox and Robbie Reed rounded out the top five spots.

Justin Reed drove Tony Dunker’s back up machine in the Miller Lite Modified regular points events for the evening and looked like he might just break Long’s stranglehold on the division during the main event as he lead almost all of the first ten laps of the twenty lap main event but as usual Michael Long sliced through the field from his sixth row starting spot to gain the lead on the eleventh lap. Long pulled out to a 1.3 second lead at the checkered flag followed by Reed in second, Brandon Lennox in third, Steven DeLonjay in fourth and David Wietholder in fifth. Long, Wietholder and Jeff Waterman were the heat race winners. Long now holds a twenty seven point lead over Rookie Steven DeLonjay in the Track Points Championship standings.

Jeff Mueller took home his fourth feature win of the year in the Triple R Performance Engines Sunoco IMCA Stock Car Division. Mueller started in the  fourth row and took the lead on the eighth lap and held off a determined Abe Huls to take the win. Huls settled for second followed by John Oliver Jr. in third, Chris Wibbell in fourth and Steve Steinkuhler in fifth. Dave Wietholder and Steve Steinkuhler were the heat race winners. John Oliver Jr. now has a slim two point margin over Chris Wibbell with Jeff Mueller making a strong bid to get back into the chase for the first Track Points Championship for the IMCA Stock Cars.

James Leffew led the final fifteen laps of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock main event chased by a persistent Aaron Brocksieck. Brocksieck settled for second followed by Michael Larsen in third, Steve Carlin in fourth and Jim Powell in fifth. Leffew and Bobby Anders took the heat race wins. Brocksieck now leads Steve Carlin by seven points in the track points chase.
