Woodworth Grabs Quincy IMCA Late Model Win
By Jack Walbring

QUINCY, IL (April 18) -  The first regular season event at Quincy Raceways saw Denny Woodworth, Michael Long, Steve Steinkuhler and Bobby Anders take home the feature event wins during Yellow Book & John Wood Community College Truck Driver Training Night at the Races.

The “Racin Lawyer” Denny Woodworth made good use of his draw of the outside front row starting spot in the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event by leading every lap on his way to his first feature win of the season. Woodworth calmly worked his way through lapped traffic and held off the challenges of Justin Reed, Keith Pratt and Matt Bailey to take the win. Reed came from the outside of row four to take second followed by Pratt in third, Matt Bailey in fourth and Billy Genenbacher in fifth. Woodworth and Genenbacher were the heat race winners with veteran Ron Elbe taking home the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Michael Long grabbed the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event win, his second this year. Long jumped into the early lead and never looked back to take the win over David Wietholder who challenged Long throughout the event. Robby Reed grabbed third followed by Justin Reed in fourth and Steven DeLonjay in fifth. DeLonjay and Justin Reed were the heat race winners with Long taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.

“Scuba Steve” Steinkuhler took the win in the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car division with an impressive performance in the twenty lapper. Steinkuhler held of Jeff Muller after Muller worked his way into second midway through the event. Mueller tried high and low to get the advantage but Steinkuhler stayed steady and held on by a car length at the checkered flag. Muller settled for second followed by Aaron Brocksieck in third, Terry Houston in fourth and Andrew Griffin in fifth. Brocksieck and Griffin took the heat race wins.

Bobby Anders new Dominator Hobby Stock proved it’s worth again Sunday night by cruising away from the rest of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks in the fifteen lap main event. Steve Carlin held off the rest of the field for second followed by Adam Scott in third, Jeff Booher in fourth and Jake Powers in fifth. Tanner Klingele and Jim Powell crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth but post race inspection found some “creative engineering” in the exhaust systems relegating both to the tail of the field. Jake Powers and Anders were the heat race winners.

Coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, April 25 will be the opening night of points racing for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models during the Rock Solid Hunting Preserve Night at the Races. Remember the new starting times as the Pit Gates open at 3, Grandstands at 4, Drivers Meeting and Registration Ends at 4:45, Hot Laps at 5 and Racing at 5:30pm. The new start time led to an 8:20 final checkered flag during this weeks races.
