Pepsi Mid-Season Championships Highlight Fourth of July at Quincy Raceways

QUINCY, IL (July 4) - The Annual Pepsi Mid-Season Championships at Quincy Raceways found a Host of new feature event winners for the 2010 season on Sunday, July 4.

 Robby Warner cruised to his first ever Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event win in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model division. Warner started on the outside of row one and held off Dustin Griffin for the first five laps and then Joey Gower of the remainder of the thirty laps that saw only one caution flag on lap two. Gower settled for the second place hardware followed by Griffin in third, Keith Pratt in fourth and Justin Reed in fifth. Griffin and Billy Genenbacher were the heat race winners while Justin Reed scored the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

 A special event for the UMP Pro-Crate Late Models found Dustin Griffin dominating the night’s action by taking the win in his heat race and the feature event. Griffin was followed to the checkered flag in the Pepsi Crate Late Model Shootout by Bobbi Marintoni in second, Jerry Lierly in third, Jake Griffin in fourth and Joe Hughes in fifth.

 Michael Long picked up yet another feature event win in the Miller Lite UMP Modified Pepsi Mid-Season Championship main event but Tony Dunker made a race out of it as numerous caution flags brought the feature race to an early conclusion on lap sixteen of the scheduled twenty five. Long was followed to the checkered flag by Dunker in second, Jared Schlipman in third, Steven DeLonjay in fourth and David Wietholder in fifth. Steven Stotler, Reed and Long were the heat race winners with DeLonjay taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash series.

 Andrew Griffin jumped into the early lead of the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event and held off Jerry Jansen over the first three laps but Abe Huls had other ideas about how the racing order should look. Huls took over second on lap four and then worked his way past Griffin on lap five. Huls then held Griffin and Terry Houston and bay until the checkered flag fell on lap twenty. Houston scored second followed by Griffin in third, Jansen in fourth and Wes Mayfield in fifth. Griffin toke the lone heat race win.

  Jeremy Buss grabbed the lead in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event and managed to hold off Brian Hoener over the first fourteen laps and then held Bobby Anders at bay until the checkered flag fell on lap twenty. Anders crossed the line in second followed by Hoener in third, Tanner Klingele in fourth and Steve Carlin in fifth but a post race protest of Anders legality changed up the finish order as it was determined that Anders had no inner fender wells as required by the rule book which moved Hoener into second, Klingele in third, Carlin in fourth and Jim Powell into fifth. Carlin and Justin Bartz were the heat race winners.

 Sunday, July 11th brings the biggest event of the season to Quincy Raceways as the UMP Summer Nationals Hell Tour comes to town for a $5000 to Win, $500 to start forty lap feature event. Currently Dennis Erb, Shannon Babb, Jason Feger, Jeep VanWormer and Ryan Unzicker and in a very tight points battle for the prestigious Summer Nationals Championship. The Pit Gates open at 2, Grandstands at 4, Drivers Registration and Drivers Meeting at 4:45, Hot Laps at 5 and Qualifying at 5:30pm. The Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite Ump Modifieds and the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks will also be in action in regular points racing. The Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars will get a one week vacation. Adult Tickets are $20, Seniors $15, Students (11-15) and Children 10 and Under are Free. The Family Pass Ticket (2 Adults and 2 Students) is $50 which is a $10 savings.
