QUINCY, Ill. (Sept. 5, 2011) – With nearly a second lead and just two laps remaining, one would feel secure more times than not that if you kept the car straight you had a good shot at a win, and conversely if you were trailing by that much you may not think there was much of a chance for a victory. At Quincy Raceways, Monday, Joey Moughan had that lead during the late stages of the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders feature event, and Ben Wagoner had just moved into second place, passing Korey Weyant for the spot. At the end of the 24th lap, however, Wagoner had the race lead and picked up the win one lap later. On that 24th lap, Wagoner, whose car was getting faster as the race went on, passed Moughan coming out of turn four to take the white flag. In that ¼ mile of racing surface at Quincy Raceways, Wagoner had run more than .8 seconds faster than Moughan. Moughan didn’t bobble, Wagoner was just that fast. For Wagoner the win was his third in four features with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders, after struggling much of the early season. Moughan would hold on for second, ahead of Weyant. Jim Moughan, Jr., took home the fourth spot, while current points leader Bobby Mincer would finish fifth. Ryan Jamison led early, until exploding his machine’s rear-end on a restart with one lap in the books. Jamison was getting on the gas at the restart point when a flash came and the car stopped moving. The rest of field had to take quick action to avoid major problems. Jimmy Davies led for several laps before Joey Moughan took the race lead. A late caution bunched the field up, but Joey Moughan looked to have the field covered before Wagoner’s impressive final few laps.
