Sutton Wins Wild One at Donnellson
By Jake Croxton

DONNELLSON, IA (June 28, 2006) - Matt Sutton became the first repeat winner on the 2006 Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders tour after charging from thirteenth to win the Olson Bros. Custom Shop / Budweiser 25 at the Lee County Speedway. Sutton took advantage of Larry Ball, Jr.’s mishap with two laps remaining.

“Chris McGraw can set up a racecar,” Sutton said of his S&S Short Stop / Onion Farms / Maxim. “Those cars are so fun to drive and Grit Motorsports is putting
good equipment underneath us. Right now, it’s fun.” The Macomb, Ill. driver will pad his points lead heading into 34 Raceway on Monday.

Ryan Jamison earned his first Mike Campbell’s Body Shop & Towing Shake-Up Dash win of 2006, but pulled a number four pill. That put Little Rock, Arkansas shoe Ricky Logan on the pole for the 25-lapper. It was outside front row starter Larry Ball, Jr. blasting away on the start and leading the first 13 laps.

The first caution emerged on lap 6 for Matt Krieger’s spin in turn two. At that point, Logan began to fade with power steering failure.

As the leaders entered traffic near the halfway point, Josh Higday made his presence known at the front.

Higday made room between Ball, Jr. and the guardrail coming out of turn two and led at lap 14. The lead was short-lived, as Jimmie Davies and Higday made contact in turn one. That sent both cars around, also collecting third-place Jeff Mitrisin.

Ball, Jr. set sail again on the restart and looked to have the race in hand, but Jayson Ditsworth’s blown engine brought out the caution before the leader could
cross the start-finish line.

After a lengthy cleanup, Ball, Jr.’s took off on the restart but slowed out of fuel, necessitating the final caution.

Behind Ball, Jr., Sutton had quietly worked through the field and around Bobby Mincer on the restart. That allowed him the clear track for the
green-white-checkered.

“I knew nobody else would go up there,” Sutton commented of the oiled outside line. “I knew that the lane would be open, and when I got around them on the
top, I knew we had it in the bag. I was just hoping it would stay green.”

“In the long run, I probably made a poor decision by going low on that last restart into turn one and two,” Mincer said of the ill-fated restart. “I think we’re finding where we need to be – slow, but sure. Half the season’s already over but we’re just nipping at it a little here and a little there and being patient.” The runner-up showing was Mincer’s best of 2006.

Logan held on for third, while Bobby Hawks and Jamison completed the top five. John Schulz, B-Main winner Korey Weyant, Manny Rockhold, Nick Eastin, and Rager Phillips completed the top 10.

Independence Day Speedweeks continue Monday, July 3rd at 34 Raceway in W. Burlington. Matt Rogerson and Mother Nature each have wins at the facility in 2006.
