Sutton Takes Winners Share of Sprint Invaders Clash at Quincy
Raceways
By Jack Walbring
QUINCY, IL (June 6) - Matt Sutton of Macomb took home the $1000 winners share of
the purse in the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders main event at Quincy Raceways
on Wednesday, June 6. Gabe Maycock took the lead on the third try to start the
main event after four cars were eliminated in a first turn meley that ended the
night for Kaley Garst, Lance Gullo, Tim Moore and Justin Newberry. Maycock
looked like he was going to be the man to beat but Brian Hetrick battled into
the lead on the third lap and held the top spot for two laps until Maycock took
the lead away on lap five., Maycock then held the lead through lap ten when he
looped his sprinter in turn three avoiding a tangle with a lapped car, giving
the lead to Sutton. Sutton was in the seventh spot after the first lap problems
and pulled into the second spot by lap eight. Maycock’s misfortune was Sutton’s
good luck as he pulled into a comfortable lead throughout the rest of the twenty
five laps and won by a comfortable four and a half seconds at the checkered
flag. Ragar Phillips scored the second spot followed by Brian Hetrick in third,
Matt Rogerson in fourth and Chris Urish in fifth. The heat race wins went to
Maycock, Lance Gullo, and Phillips while Maycock took the win in the Shottenkird
Toyota of Quincy Super Shake Up Dash.
Mark Burgtorf took the win in the Miller Lite Modified main event but it took
him twenty two laps to get to the front of the twenty five lap event. Brandon
Lennox dominated the first nine laps until Michael Long slipped into the lead
with a move on the outside of turn four on lap ten. Long then held Burgtorf at
bay until a lap twenty two restart. Burgtorf blasted by Long for the lead and
the race win on the twenty fifth lap. Long settled for the second spot followed
by Dave Wietholder in third, Lennox in fourth and Ryan Meyer in fifth.
Wietholder, Meyer and Long were the heat race winners while Tony Dunker claimed
the Advance Trading Dash for Cash.
Aaron Brocksieck led the first six laps of the Hobby Stock main event but it was
not his night as Steve Carlin blasted into the lead on the seventh lap and held
Brocksieck at bay until the checkered flag on the fifteenth lap. Brocksieck
settled for second followed by Travis Kelle in third, Sara Woodhurst in fourth
and Travis Booher in fifth. Matt Burgtorf and Carlin were the heat race winners.
