John Hall returns to Knoxville racing

MARION, IOWA (August 23, 2008)--John Hall and his Left Turn Enterprises racing team returned to the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, August 23, and the experience showed the otherwise difficult season could still end on a strong note.

After taking a few weeks to test some new ideas and try to find more speed, the team got its first opportunity to apply that knowledge with the Knoxville Championship Cup Series. Hot-lap times showed Hall was fairly competitive, as he was sixth of the 11 drivers in his warm-up session and 18th of 35 drivers overall in the 360 division.

Drawing a good starting spot is a lot of the battle, and once again, Hall's luck of the draw was not the best. His draw put him eighth of nine competitors in his seven-lap heat race. Problems with the car's fuel pump sidelined him after four laps had been completed and he retreated to the pit area with a ninth-place finish.

That put him 17th out of 18 competitors to start the night's consolation race. Things could have easily turned ugly early in that race when a driver in front of him got out of shape on a restart and Hall had to use some good driving skills to avoid being caught up in an accident.

After that, there were several other caution points during the race, but Hall was able to avoid them all and began to show that his machine had finally hooked up on the racing surface by passing several cars.

However, as the 10-lap race neared its completion, mechanical issues resurfaced and he pulled in with two laps left, credited with an 11th-place finish.

The team will get one more chance to compete at Knoxville in 2008 when the season championship wraps things up next Saturday, August 30. After that, the team will compete in two Sprint Invaders Association shows during September. Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Illinois, will be on the agenda for Saturday, September 20, and 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, will finish off the year on Saturday, September 27.

The race car is owned by Charles and Doris Hall. Crew members are Darrell Bonesteel, Cole Page, Cass Page and Steve Lindell. Regular sponsors include Maxim Racing, Parker Engines, APC Emmert Metal Fabricators, Super Shox, Chalk Stix Torsion Bars, Marion Dairy Queen, Brake Man Brake Systems, Thompson Aero Service and Seal-It International.

The team is actively seeking additional funding to help with its racing effort.
