USMTS back in action this weekend with Show-Me State doubleheader

LA MONTE, Mo. (April 5) – The USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour fires ‘em back up for two days in the Show-Me State this weekend with a take home pay of $4,000 up for grabs for any driver lucky and skilled enough to sweep the weekend's events.

On Friday, the USMTS dirt merchants pay a visit to the LA Raceway in La Monte, Mo., and then travel two hours northeast to the 24 Raceway in Moberly, Mo., on Saturday.

Each event will pay $2,000 to win with a minimum $250 to start the main event.

Both blockbuster events will be worth valuable points in the Falcon Wind Power Mo-Kan Region of the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour with a power-packed field of cars expected, including current points leader Jason Hughes, nine-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock, Johnny Bone Jr., Jon Tesch, Dereck Ramirez, Zack VanderBeek, Rodney Sanders, John Allen, Tommy Weder Jr., Bryan Rowland, Steve Holzkamper, Melvin Pilcher, Colt Mather, Mark Dotson, Austin Siebert, Lucas Conley, Scott Green, Mickey Burrell, Brandon Davis, Chris Deaton, Josh Griggs, Johnny Scott, Rick Beebe, Grant and Chase Junghans, Nic Bidinger, Tommy Myer, Danny Charles, Ryan Gustin, Johnny Fennewald, Brian Green, Jeremy Ross and more.

The mud starts flying on Friday night, April 9, as the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour invades the LA Raceway for the fourth straight year.

Springfield’s Jeremy Payne captured the inaugural event at the 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval in 2007. Payne’s second victory last August was erased when he was disqualified and the win was awarded to Grant Junghans, who went on to capture the DandyLand Farms Rookie of the Year Award.

Other former winners at the LA Raceway include Shryock (2008) and Sanders, who captured his career-first win here in June last year. After 150 laps in four feature races at the track, the yellow flag has waved just once – on lap 11 of the 2008 affair. The other three “A” mains were caution-free, including both of last year’s contests.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 7 and the first heat race is slated for 7:30. Local Street Stocks will also be racing. The LA Raceway is a located 3.5 miles west of SR 127 on Hwy Y. For more information, call 660-620-1152 (office) or 660-563-9878 (track) or check out www.laraceway.com online.

On Saturday, April 11, the 24 Raceway hosts the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour for the fourth time in three years.

The 2008 event at the 4/10-mile high-banked clay oval drew national attention with the first-ever tie to end a USMTS main event as Jon Tesch and Zack VanderBeek crossed the stripe in a dead heat. The limitations of human sight were removed last April with AMB Timing & Scoring in place, but this time Tesch rolled to a convincing win. The series returned in August with Michael Long capturing his career-first victory under the USMTS banner.

Gates will open at 5 p.m., with hot laps slated for 6:30 and the first green flag scheduled to wave at 7. B-Modifieds, Sportsmans, Hobby Stocks and Hornets will also be on the racing card. The 24 Raceway is located 3.5 miles east of US 63 on US 24. For more information, call 573-881-8861 or visit www.24racewayinmoberly.com on the World Wide Web.
