Two new winners emerge as Ullrich, Carter capture USRA Iron Man Challenge checkers at Mineral City Speedway

FORT DODGE, Iowa (June 13) – The Iron Man Challenge featuring the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods journeyed to the Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Monday night and two more new winners came out on top of their main events.

In the Stock Car feature race, Chris Ullrich of Kiron captured his first Iron Man Challenge checkers and pocketed the $700 top prize by holding off Jake Masters of Graettinger for the win.

While Ullrich and Masters came from the outside of the front two rows, respectively, several movers clawed their way to the front of the field.

Kyle Falck of Decorah finished third after starting 13th on the 26-car grid while last year’s event winner Mark Elliott of Webster City started 17th and wound up fourth.

Points leader Nathan Wood of Sigourney finished fifth with Webster City’s Todd Staley scoring a sixth-place finish after starting 22nd.

Matt Fox of Paton was seventh, Justin Temeyer of Independence held on for eighth, Mike Van Genderen of Newton ran ninth and Jeremy Crimmins of Fort Dodge completed the top ten.

In B-Mod action, Cayden Carter ventured into victory lane for the first time this season and collected $500 for his efforts.

The high-schooler from Oskaloosa held off Jefferson’s Matt Pittman for the win, with Jared Timmerman of Norwalk, Steve Reetz of Arcadia and points leader Matt Lettow of Roland finishing third through fifth.

Sixth through tenth, respectively, went to Jared Hansen of Audubon, Troy Hovey of Decorah, Brian Schrage of Cresco, defending USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod National Champion Brandon Hare of Elma and Grinnell’s Brad Iverson.

USRA Hobby Stocks were also on Monday night’s racing card battling for national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series.

Kevin Berger of Otho took the win, followed by track points leader Austin Wolfgram of Webster City, Chad Krug of Emmetsburg, Justin Nehring of Storm Lake and Brad Ratcliff of Webster City.

On Wednesday, the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, will host the USRA Iron Man Challenge in conjunction with the USMTS Modifieds and another $700-to-win show for the Stock Cars and B-Mods going for $500 to the winner.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m. grandstands open at 5, hot laps begin at 7 and the first heat race gets the green flag at 7:30.

Rounding out the evening’s racing card will be USRA Hobby Stocks also competing for national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series.

Seventeen dates at twelve dirt ovals comprise the 2011 schedule for the second season of the Iron Man Challenge. Points for both classes will be awarded based on a driver’s 10 best nights.

The points fund for the Stock Cars carries a $2,000 top prize with the tenth-place finisher earning $200. In the B-Mod class, the points champion will earn $700 with tenth-place taking home $100.
