Joldersma best at Bloomfield for first Iron Man Challenge Stock Car triumph; Mundell masters B-Mods

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa (July 21) – Jeff Joldersma topped the field of USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and Mark Mundell came out on top in the USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod main event Thursday night as the tough-as-nails Iron Man Challenge invaded the Bloomfield Speedway during the annual Davis County Fair.

Joldersma’s first trip to the 3/8-mile oval netted him his first Iron Man Challenge trophy, and the Stock Car driver from McClelland did it by passing and then holding off Wednesday night’s winner Mike Van Genderen of Newton who started on the pole.

Justin Temeyer of Independence came from the 16th starting spot to finish third, with Shane Weller of Agency and Tom Schmitt of Independence rounding out the top 5 finishers.

The $700 triumph helped move Joldersma up to third in the points standings behind defending Iron Man Challenge champion Nathan Wood of Sigourney and Temeyer who are just nine points apart.

In B-Mod action, Ottumwa’s Mark Mundell took home the $600 top prize in winning his first Iron Man Challenge main event.

Polesitter Jared Timmerman of Norwalk scored his best finish of the season in the runner-up spot, with points leader Matt Lettow of Roland taking third and notching his ninth top-10 finish in ten starts.

Carter VanDenBerg of Oskaloosa and Bloomfield’s Mike Shelton finished fourth and fifth.

Next up will be back-to-back events in conjunction with the USMTS Modifieds on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 4-5, at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, and first-ever clash at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis.

Seventeen dates at twelve dirt ovals comprise the 2011 schedule for the Iron Man Challenge. Points for both classes are based on a driver’s 10 best nights. Licensed USRA drivers in both classes will also earn national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series.
