DAVENPORT, Ia (Oct. 4) - The WORLD Dirt Racing League brings the PolyDome Late
Model Series to the Davenport Speedway this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 5 and 6)
for a double-header season finale.
Five drivers are still in the hunt for the 2007 WDRL title. Justin Fegers of
Mound, Minn., has earned 3,103 points so far this year and comes into this
weekend with the points lead. Fegers has ripped off six straight top-10 finishes
to push him into the points lead.
Brian Harris of Davenport is second with 3,075 points. Harris is not expected to
compete as he continues to recover from injuries suffered in a racing crash in
September. The entire WDRL family continues to offer thoughts and prayers to the
driver of car 21H for a speedy recovery.
Dave Eckrich of Cosgrove, Iowa, sits in third place with 3,027 points. Eckrich
has scored four top-10 finishes in the last six races. He had a fifth-place
finish at the Davenport half-mile back in June, and he hopes to better that in
his attempt to catch Fegers.
John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., is fourth with 3,020 points. Kaanta is still
mathematically in the hunt for the PolyDome Late Model Series points title.
Sitting only seven points behind Eckrich, Kaanta could very easily climb a few
more spots in the final rundown. Kaanta is the leading WDRL Rookie of the Year
competition.
Eric Pember of Pittsville, Minn., rounds out the top five in the tally with
3,012 points. Pember's numbers also give him a mathematical chance for the
title. He is coming off a solid third-place finish this past weekend at Lakeside
Speedway.
Pit gates open at 2 p.m. Friday at Davenport Speedway. Front gates open at 5
with hot laps set for 6. On Saturday the pit gates open at 2 p.m. with front
gates open at 4 and hot laps slated for 5:30 p.m. The track is located at the
Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, 2815 W. Locust St.
