GILMAN CITY, Mo. (August 23) - The stars and cars of the WORLD Dirt Racing League are set to compete in two exciting nights of racing over the Labor Day weekend. On Saturday, Aug. 30, the WDRL Late Model Series stops at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. The next night, Sunday, Aug. 31, the best dirt Late Model drivers will travel to Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill.

The double-header weekend kickoff off at Deer Creek Speedway is The Labor Day Duel, presented by BP, where WDRL Late Model Series drivers will race for a $5,000 first prize. Modifieds will also be trackside, racing for a top prize of $2,000. Last year, 2005 WDRL Late Model Series champion Brady Smith took the win.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. on Aug. 30, the grandstand opens at 3 and racing is set to begin at 5. Spectators can save time and money by ordering tickets online at www.deercreekspeedway.com.

The WORLD Dirt Racing League Late Model Series then moves to the Quad City Raceway the next night. Current WDRL point leader John Kaanta, Elk Mound, Wis., grabbed the win in last year's Labor Day Classic at the speedway. The pit area will open at 2 p.m. on Aug. 31, and the grandstand opens at 3. Iowa-Illinois Taylor Insulation Time Trials are set for 6 with the CrashedToys.com Heat Races to follow.

Kaanta has been adding to his point lead by continuing to put his No. 85 toward the front each race night. Kaanta scored a win and a sixth-place finish in the last two WDRL events.

Chad Simpson, Mount Vernon, Iowa, had a rough weekend when the tour stopped at Cedar Lake Speedway July 31. Despite his tough luck, Simpson finds himself in second place in points and hopes to pilot his No. 25 into Victory Lane Lador Day weekend.

Eric Pember, Pittsville, Wis., sits just 20 points back of Simpson in third. Frank Heckenast Jr., Orland Park, Ill., is fourth with Chris Simpson, Oxford, Iowa, rounding out the top five.
