Nienhiser finally punches through for Davenport Sprint Invaders win

| May 10, 2025

DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 9, 2025) – The third time was a charm for Paul Nienhiser of Chapin , Il. Nienhiser finished second to Chase Randall at Davenport in 2022. He also finished second to Scott Bogucki at Davenport in 2023. Friday night at Davenport Speedway, he did not finish second.

Paul started on the pole of the 25-lap main, but lost the lead to Tasker Phillips at the drop of the green. Phillips led the first four laps before a bobble cost him the top spot. Nienhiser took control on lap five, but the next twenty laps were no picnic.

A pesky Phillips kept making runs at the leader, in lapped traffic. Nienhiser also had to hold off a late race charge from Terry McCarl.

Nienhiser took the Sprint Invaders victory and the $2,000 first-place prize. McCarl came home second, 1.133 seconds behind the leader. Phillips finished third with Riley Goodno and Josh Schniederman completing the top five.

Phillips, Schniederman, and Jake Blackhurst won the sprint car heats. Phillips won the dash. The B-feature was won by Devon Dobie. Twenty-seven winged sprint cars were on hand Friday night.

The IMCA Modified feature was also a Fast Shafts All-Star qualifier thanks to Midwest Recyclers. With the extra money and a shot at the All-Star race on the line, no one was giving an inch. That included Brandon Durbin of Colona, Ill.

Durbin dominated his heat race and then drew the pole for the feature. Brandon led all twenty laps of the feature to earn the big payday.

Second would go to Logan Veloz. Veloz started sixth and slowly moved forward during the second half of the race. Kyle Montgomery ran second early in the race, faded back, and then surged late to take third.
Eric Barnes and Matt Werner finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Tony Olson captured the win in the AVS Hydro Excavating IMCA SportMod class. Olson started twelveth and would not see the lead until lap eleven. Once in front, Tony started to pull away from the field. He finished with a two second gap on second place Ryan Reed. Brad Salisberry, Cole Stichter, and Dakota Cole finished third through fifth, in that order. The victory was Olson’s third of the season at Davenport

Blake Woodruff continued to be perfect in Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock competition this season. Friday he captured his fourth Davenport win in four races. Woodruff started deep in the field and grabbed the lead at the halfway point of the race and led to the checkers.
Jake Lund looked good in second with early race leader Cary Brown finishing third.

Back to back wins for Daniel Wauters in the Wangelin’s Auto IMCA Hobby Stock class. Wauters started fifth and took the lead on lap two. Dan Mohr took second followed by Randy LaMar and Nick Proehl.

With curfew fast approaching, the Cantrell’s Towning/ Fred’s Towing/ QC Towing IMCA Mod Lite feature was shortened by caution flags. With 12 of the 15 laps complete, Jon Padilla picked up his second win of the year at Davenport. Mike Morrow finished second, followed by Austin Gray, Josh May, and Alex Eischeid.

Point racing tops the agenda next Friday at Davenport Speedway. All five weekly classes will be in action.
Race fans, start your Memorial Day weekend right with the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing East Series when they roar into the Davenport Speedway on Friday, May 23rd.
