COLUMBUS JUNCTION (CJ SPEEDWAY) – The 2021 racing season got underway on Friday night in spectacular fashion at the CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction as an outstanding field of 106 drivers raced on opening night.

The headliner of the night was the 20 lap Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Car feature, Jason See advanced from his outside second row start to battle with early leader Scott Jordan. See took the lead for good as the third lap was scored. See went on to sail around the top side of the slick smooth track in route to an impressive win. Tad Payne advanced from a fourth row start to finish just ahead of Derrick Agee at the checkers. Agee raced with Payne for several laps as he also advanced form the fourth row before settling for third.

The Stewart & Son Fuel IMCA Modified feature belonged to Derrick Stewart on Friday night. Stewart took command early from his outside front row start and was never seriously challenged as he recorded the opening night win ahead of Drew Janseen who had made the long tow from Pella to race on Friday night. Jarrett Brown had a fine run in crossing under he checkers in third.

The Huston Brothers Trucking IMCA Sportmods saw an excellent field of 26 drivers enter for Friday nights race program. Shane Paris proved to be the class of the field on Friday night as he established himself early as the man to beat. Paris held off one of the best in the Sportmod division, in Carthage, Illinois driver Austin Becerra. Paris took the checkers ahead of Becerra and CJ hot shoe Austin Paul.

The Midwest Towing IMCA Sport Compacts saw CJ Speedway defending track champion Cody Staley score another feature win on his favorite track. Staley will be doing double duty in 2021, as he will also be campaigning a Hobby Stock. Staley took the Sport Compact checkers after a race long duel with Jake Benischek. The two leaders swapped the lead several times before Staley was able to score the win.

New to the CJ Speedway in 2021 will be the addition of the CJ Auto Parts-NAPA Store IMCA Hobby Stocks. A great field of 16 drivers raced on opening night, the first to the checkers was Randy LaMar, who had raced to the front from a 6th position start. LaMar held off a determined Jake Benischek in scoring the win.

Friday night racing will continue at the CJ Speedway on Friday, April 23, with hot laps scheduled to to take to the track at 7:15 pm.
