W.O.W. 360 SPRINTS UP NEXT AT 24 RACEWAY FOR MAY 29th
by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway

MOBERLY, MO (May 25) - "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" took a second weekend in a row off at 24 Raceway due to too much wetness on the grounds, but the 2nd annual car show did take place on Sunday.  Some 50+ entries found a catagory that covered their car or truck or motorcycle, and a sweet black Mustang named "Elinor" took the $100 grand prize for Best of Show, courtesy of O'Reilly Automotive.  Plaques were awarded for 1st & 2nd place in the 24 classes.  Watch for next year's 3rd annual Car Show planned to be held on the 3rd Sunday of May.

Promo:  Next weekend's action brings back those Winged Outlaw Warriors in their 360 cubic inch Sprints, for the Gary Scott Memorial race.  Previous race winners:  Josh Fisher - 2009, John Corbin - 2008, Rusty Potter - 2007, Randy Martin - 2004 & 06, and Jason Martin - 2005, are looking to return and repeat with perhaps another win in this 20 lap event.  Competitors in this sprint car race at 24 Raceway have been clocked at speeds up to 122mph on these steep banks.  This will be the 11th annual "Gary Scott Memorial" race, dedicated to a fallen sprint car driver who lost his life while racing in competition in Iowa, a little over a decade ago.  Admission will be a cool $15 to the grandstand for the adults, with kids age 12 & under, still admitted free to see the W.O.W. spints AND four regular classes of B-modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and 4 cylinder Hornet classes all racing in some fast competition.

Note:  The A-modifieds will be taking a night off from racing this week at Moberly.

Gates open at 4pm.  Pit passes are $30 for this coming Saturday night of Memorial weekend.  Racing starts at 7 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 6:15, following the a short drivers' meeting at 6pm.  See the website of www.24racewayinmoberly.com for flyers for more upcoming specials, as well as the site of  www.heartlandmotorsports.com

UPCOMING EVENTS:

    May 29 - Gary Scott Memorial featuring the W.O.W. 360 sprints + B-mods, Sportsman, Hobbys & Hornets

    June 5 - weekly racing series + Sportsman's mechanic's race

June 12 - rescheduled Southern MIdget Racing Series (20 Lap event) + weekly racing series

June 18&19 - It's an ALL-DUKEFEST WEEKEND with bands, concessions, quite a bit of General Lee show cars, a few of the Duke's show characters on site, and even an actual General Lee car jump!  (no racing set for this weekend)

June 24 - MLRA + Sportsman + Hobby Stock classes in an all-fendered racing Thursday show

June 26 - Hobby Stock Special + weekly racing series

Misc:  Some consideration is being given to possible Sunday night racing, IF a rain-out happens on Saturday like it has for 4 of the prior 7 weekends.  After having gone through as many rainy dates as have taken place in April & May these last three seasons, this could become feasible.  More discussions are to follow.  Last week's race postphonement did give the mowing crews some much needed time at the track in attending to those matters.

"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" is back once more this Saturday in Moberly, MO at 24 Raceway, located just three miles east of US Highway 63.
