RACING RESUMES AT 24 RACEWAY, THIS TIME WITH THE 4 CYLINDER HORNET SPECIAL

by Ron Lueck - 24 Raceway

MOBERLY, MO (July 26) - After a Saturday off from racing at Moberly, which actually would have been canceled by that 6pm rain anyway last weekend, the program will resume this coming Saturday with the annual Hornet Special.  Two weeks earlier, the weather cooperated with drying out the track just long enough between early morning downpours to get the night's events in.  The hope is that the remnants of the gulf storm blow out by this Saturday, July 31 to allow for this week's 20-lap Hornet Special in a similar fashion to the prior racing at 24 Raceway.  Hornet drivers will compete for a $250 first place prize in the final feature of the evening's five races.  Also racing for their respective purse, points and trophies will be the other four classes of A & B-Modifieds, Sportsman and Hobby Stock classes.

Following the five feature events for this July 31st night will be a mechanic's race for the A-Modified guys who usually work on the wrench end of things.  Only this time, mechanics for the fastest of the regular classes will get to turn the steering wheel for a few laps on the cars that these drivers push to over 105 mph in competition on this high-banked track.  It's another good event for the mechanics to tackle, and also for the fans to watch at the end of the evening.

"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" will begin this Saturday night at 7pm, with a short driver's meeting at 6pm, followed by hot laps, starting at 6:15.  See the flyer for this Hornet Special on our website of  www.24racewayinmoberly.com .  Admission to the grandstand is only $10 for this and the next racing weekend of August 14 at 24 Raceway.  Kids 12 and under are always free to the grandstands, so bring the family out for a night of some good entertainment.  Pit passes are $25 for this night, and also the next event.  A flyer for the Hornet Special can also be found on the website of www.heartlandmotorsports.com and can be downloaded from both sites.

 UPCOMING EVENTS:

    July 31 - Hornet Special (a 20 Lap event) + weekly racing series + A-mod Mechanic's race

August 14 - All-Star Race (with winning car's photo posted on website banner for 2011) + weekly racing series + Hornet Mechnic's race

August 28 - USMTS re-visiting in the "Hunt for the Championship" (being taped for televised viewing) + weekly racing series for the 2010 Season Championships

Sept 11 - Bob Hubert Memorial B-Modified Championship Shootout

"Dirt Track Racing at its Best" returns to Moberly every two weeks at 24 Raceway for this second half of the 2010 season through September, with some great competition on the high banks of Moberly, Missouri, off the north side of U.S. Highway 24 and just three miles east of town.
