WINSTON, MO (August 17, 2013) –  The exception to the veteran driver’s domination on this night of racing action saw rookie contender Houston “The Moose” Johnson #97 pick up not only the heat race win but feature victory number two this season in the Grand National class.  Johnson was challenged every lap by mentor driver Bud Wilson #75 who would place second, with Don Marrs #9 finishing third.  Austin Johnson #98 would suffer mechanical problems to place fourth.

Back to I-35 Speedway for another round were the Midwest Lightning Sprints.  Returning to the track in great fashion witnessed veteran driver Bobby Layne #01 in victory circle.  Layne would take an early lead in the feature, after winning his heat race, and hold off the hard charge of second place finisher, and other heat race winner, Tony Layne #71.  Third place saw a raging battle between Mike Trent #49t and Mark Billings #51, with Trent claiming the third spot holding Billings to fourth.  Ken Brown #10 would charge through the pack to finish a solid fifth.

In the IMCA Street Stock class veteran driver and point leader Dean Wray #77 would charge from a back row starting position to pass all cars on his way to victory.  Wray would overtake one time leader, and heat race winner, Greg Keuhn #6x on a daring last corner of the last lap pass.  Keuhn would finish a very close second, while pole sitter Bruce Fair #44f would place a very solid third.  Aaron “Boo” Sauter #21a would hold off the hard charge of Jake Cameron #86c to finish fourth, with Cameron rounding out the top five. Other heat race winner was #88 of “Big” Jeff Dixon.

In a battle of attrition the IMCA Sport Mods saw I-35 Speedway point leader Randy Ainsworth #57 come from a fourth row outside starting spot to claim the victory.  Early feature leader and heat race winner Brandon Bouzek #75 drove a near flawless race on his way to an impressive second place finish.  Clint Baker #17x and Jason Billups #33j would battle every lap to the checkers as Baker would place third and Billups fourth.  Jeremy Pittsenbarger #32p would come from a rear of the field starting position to claim the night’s fifth place. Mitch Booher #22b was also a heat race winner.

Fireworks flew in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature as Mich Ross #34 claimed the checkers as the smoke cleared, not only in the heat race but in the feature as well.  Veteran driver David Truskett #83 would wheel his way to a second place finish, as Bryce Whitney #x9 would finish third.  After on track altercations #17f of Lee Farmer placed fourth and track point leader Kenny Champ #3 would finish fifth.

In the main event of the evening “Mr. Excitement” Jim Cameron #96c lived up to his nickname, driving the Steve Starmer prepared IMCA Modified to victory lane.  Cameron would lead every lap of the feature holding off an always fast “Reflection of Perfection” and heat race winner Cory Wray #69n, who would finish second.  Racing side by side for the third and fourth position witnessed Darren Shaw #11 and Steven Glenn #26s battle to the checkers, with Shaw gaining the edge to place third and point leader Glenn placing fourth.  Heat race winner John Hanson #2h would recover from an early race spin to finish in the fifth spot.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank Reaper Chassis, Little Red Kennel, W-W  Motorsports, and Shawn Lee Racing for donating the four bicycles that were given away during the night’s Intermission.  Winners of the bikes were Chloe Allen, Jacob Easley, Tunleigh Sheetz, and Tyson Corkins.  Congratulations to all these winners and please enjoy your new bikes.  Bicycle races were enjoyed by all and Winners Circle Awards donated trophies for the winners and medallions for all participants.  A special thanks to Nic Hanes driver of the Sport Mod #9h for donating a prize to the winner of the four and under group.  We would like to thank all bike racers as all are winners.  Post-Race entertainment, at no added expense, consisted of a live band performance, sponsored by track owners Mike and Kyle Johnson, of Outlaw Jim and the Whiskey Benders.

Next week we at I-35 Speedway invite all our great and loyal fans to wear the T-Shirt of their favorite driver, race team, race track, or NASCAR favorite as it will be “T-Shirt Night at the Races”.  We look forward to seeing each and everyone back next Saturday Night for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
