Bergman Bags NCRA/ASCS Sooner Region Victory at Humboldt Speedway!

| April 21, 2019

Humboldt, Kansas – April 19, 2019 – Seth Bergman took the lead with nine laps to go and went on the rest of the way unchallenged to win the caution-filled National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing and American Bank of Oklahoma American Sprint Car Series presented by Smiley’s Racing Products sprint car feature Friday night at Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kansas.

The first of the Triple Crown Bonus for the two premiere 360-ci sprint divisions in the region saw Alex Sewell and Tim Crawley start on the front row for the thirty-lap feature with Sewell taking the lead as the green flag fell.

Crawley, Andrew Deal, Wayne Johnson and Sean McClelland were the top five after the first lap was complete and the first red flag fell on lap two when Don Droud, Jr., Jake Greider and Matt Covington got together in turns one and two with Droud flipping. All drivers were okay but were done for the night.

Sewell jumped out front on the restart while Deal would pass Crawley for the runner-up position on lap two. Sewell would stretch his lead to a half stretch before entering slower cars on lap seven.

The red flag would fall again on lap eleven when Casey Wills flipped at the bottom of turn three.

He was uninjured.

Sewell again jumped out front and pull away from Deal while behind them, the battle for third heated up as sixth-starting Bergman would pass Crawley for position and held it for the next couple laps before the caution waved on lap thirteen when Deal, who was running second, hit the wall at the top of turn three.

Top five on the restart were Sewell, Bergman, McClelland, Crawley and Johnson with Sewell again jumping out to a comfortable lead. While Sewell found the top side of the track to his liking all away around the quarter-mile clay oval, McClelland would pass Bergman for the runner-up position.

Sewell’s lead grew to a half-stretch over McClelland with ten laps to go before the caution would wave one lap later when Mike Goodman hit the wall on the backstretch and would coast around to turns three and four where he would come to a stop with a broke front end.

While Sewell continued out front, Bergman would pass McClelland for the runner up position and set his sights on the leader before the red flag quickly fell when Kyle Clark and Forrest Sutherland tangled on the backstretch with Sutherland landing on his side.

On the lap twenty-one restart, Bergman dove low entering turns one and two and drive underneath Sewell and would take the lead exiting turn two. Looking to get a strong run up top in turns one and two on the next lap, Sewell smacked the wall causing him to flip. Crawley had nowhere to go and was also involved but would be able to make the restart.

The final restart was no problem for Bergman as he would go the final eight laps virtually unchallenged to claim the victory. McClelland was six car lengths behind for second while eleventh-starting Blake Hahn would get around Johnson with four laps to go and go on to finish third. Johnson settled for fourth while twelfth-starting Harli White rounded out the top five.

The four, eight lap heat races for the thirty-three- car field were won by Deal, McClelland, Crawley and Wills with Fred Mattox and Goodman winning the two, twelve lap “B” features.

Next up for the NCRA of Park City, Kansas presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing sprint car division will be next Saturday night, April 27, at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas.
