Bollinger Family Sweep at QC Speedway
By Brad Hines

EAST MOLINE, IL (September 23, 2012) – The Kewanee father-son duo of Ray Bollinger, #77 UMP Modified, and Zach Bollinger, #77 4-Cylinder, both piloted their machines to the winner’s circle at the Quad City Speedway Sunday night.

In the Verplaetse Excavating UMP Modified feature Ray Bollinger held off a fierce charge by the 2012 Quad City Speedway UMP Modified Track Champion, Donovan Lodge, to pick up the feature win in the 20 lap feature. Lodge, who started 10th, charged through the field and was able to run side by side with Bollinger but Bollinger proved to be too strong. Lodge would take second with John Bull, who started 9th, Vince Cooper, and Jamie Balensiefen rounding out the top 5.

Zach Bollinger wasted little time coming from the second row inside starting spot to take the feature win in the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4-Cylinder feature. Cameron Poci was able to get close to Bollinger but not close enough to make a move for the lead. Rob Nylin took third followed by Andy Loy and Eric Stogdell.

Doug Crampton used the first 12 laps to move his #40 machine from the ninth starting spot to the lead in the 20 lap Orion Tire Repair IMCA Modified feature. Crampton would go on to take the checkered flag. Brian Bushong came from seventh to take second with Greg Durbin, Eric Barnes, and Dan Hahn completing the top five.

After missing last weekend’s races, Bryan Brinker picked up right where he left on September 2nd in the Mod Lites. Brinker won two features on September 2nd. Brinker dominated the Mod Lite feature Sunday night coming from the fifth starting spot to take the win. Andrew Smith finished second with Shon Sanders, who came from the back of the field, David Norton, and Brian Schnell.

Chuck Fox survived an early four-way battle for the lead with Steve Gustaf Sr., Chris Lawrence, and Rob Henry to take home the victory in the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature. Chris Lawrence would get by Rob Henry on the last lap to take second with Dwayne Smith Jr. and Cord Williams completing the top 5.

The 3-time IMCA Late Model National Champion, Ray Guss Jr., was in a league of his own Sunday night in the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature. Guss drew the pole position for the 30 lap feature and led every lap in the feature. Jeremiah Hurst started dead last and worked his way up to a second place finish with Bobby Toland, Todd Malmstrom and Mike Garland rounding out the top 5.

Next Sunday will be the final night of racing at the Quad City Speedway in 2012. The Verplaetse Excavating UMP Modifieds will headline the program with a $1,000 to win/$100 to start (for 15 or more cars) feature event. Also racing will be the Orion Tire Repair IMCA Modifieds, Extreme Auto Glass Street Stocks, and the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4-Cylinders. There will also be a Figure 8 racing exhibitions. Hot laps will be at 5:00pm with racing at 5:30pm. Regular admission prices apply.
