Boone Memorial Day show is next for Deery Series

BOONE, Iowa (May 23) – IMCA Late Model drivers following the Deery Brothers Summer Series travel to Boone Speedway for their traditional Memorial Day show. 

The Monday, May 28 main event pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start.

This is the 12th consecutive year Boone has hosted the series on Memorial Day. Ten different drivers have won holiday headliners, most recently Andy Eckrich of Oxford, second in the current point standings to Colona, Ill.’s Mike Murphy Jr.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 3 p.m. Hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m.

Also on the program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevro­let Northern SportMods. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids. Pit passes are $25.

In all, the Deery Series has made 37 previous visits to Boone, 23 of those races in conjunction with the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

Gary Webb of Blue Grass is a four-time winner at Boone, with each of those victories coming at Super Nationals. Jeff Aikey of Waterloo earned three of his series-best 55 career wins there; two-time defending Deery champion Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., topped three straight events.

Murphy owns two Deery wins so far this season. Andy Eckrich, Guss and Darrel DeFrance of Mar­shalltown made checkered flag runs of their own before Denny Eckrich of Tiffin won for the first time in his brief series career Tuesday night at Marshalltown.

The eighth of 20 events on the 2012 schedule is Tuesday, June 12, when Cedar County Race­way at Tipton hosts both the Deery Series and the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds.
