CLAUSON EARNS $10,000 ASCS WIN

| August 1, 2016

Brandon, SD (July 31, 2016) – Brian Clauson of Noblesville, Indiana, made history AND $10,000 as the winner of the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by MAVTV Motorsports Network feature at Badlands Motor Speedway.

Clauson started third, but it was hometown driver Tommy Barber who took advantage of the pole and led the first nine laps. Barber was putting on a show for the locals until he got caught up in somebody else’s mess.

Robby Wolfgang and Scott Winters both got turned around on the back stretch and Barber collided with Wolfgang’s car as he tried to drive through the scene. The collision sent Barber to his hauler for the rest of the show and a 20th place finish.

Clauson ran with the lead after that. A late surge by Josh Baughman wasn’t enough as Clauson led the final 21 laps. Baughman finished second, ahead of Aaron Reutzel, Carson McCarl and Dusty Ballenger.

With the win, Clauson made history at BMS. He became the second driver to start the Indianapolis 500, which he did this May, and win a race at BMS. The other – Steve Kinser.

Fick led every lap but was probably glad the race ended when it did. Jacob Hughes, who started sixth, gained a lot of ground on Fick over the last half of the race. Hughes missed overtaking Fick as they crossed the line, just a slim fraction of a second apart.

The win makes Fick the winningest driver in the Micro Sprint Class through July. It was also his fourth straight at BMS.

gulby 7-31The two-time defending USRA National Hobby Stock champion delivered one of his finest performances of the season. Dustin Gulbrandson came from 14th to win a very racy A Feature.

Jim Baartman took advantage of a late restart to pass Nash, but Gulbrandson came with him and grabbed the lead on the next lap. Gulbrandson led the final two circuits with Baartman finishing second.

An inspired run by Nash was quelled after failing post-race tech. He had crossed the finish line third. Mike Chaney was scored third, followed by Jason Bradley and Chad Kuhnert.
