Coming up this Friday Night- “hibu Night at the Races” featuring the Liz’ Girl Logistics Clash at the Downs!

Cedar Rapids, IA)—Friday night June 5 is “hibu Night at the Races” as Hawkeye Downs Speedway celebrates 90 years of racing.

hibu  is a multinational directories and internet services company headquartered in ReadingBerkshire, UK. It has operations in the United Kingdom, the United States (including Cedar Rapids), Spain as well as Argentina, Chile and Peru.

On Friday night,  the ‘Best Weekly Warriors in the Country’ take to the half mile at Hawkeye Downs for the first-ever Liz Girl Logistics ‘Clash at the Downs’ featuring Big 8 Series Late Models.

The evening is highlighted by a 48 lap feature event for the Big 8 Late Model Series presented by Gandrud Chverolet and also features a full program of racing with Mountain Dew Sportsman, Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks, Dublin City Pub INEX Legends and Miller Time Hornets.

Beloit, WI driver Bobby Wilberg won the first BIG 8 Series event of the season at Rockford Speedway.

Fans of Hawkeye Downs will recall the NASCAR Northern Series which ran at multiple tracks in the Midwest, including Hawkeye Downs, using a set of rules designed to let drivers from multiple tracks compete. The Big 8 Series is much the same.  Hawkeye Downs began phasing in Big 8 Late Model rules a couple years ago and this will be the first time the series visits the historic speedway. Drivers from several states are expected including Hawkeye Downs Speedway alum and Jimmy Means Racing NASCAR XFINITY Series Driver Joey Gase!

The Hawkeye Downs Speedway Lil’ Racer Car Club will be in action as well! Kids stop by the clubhouse to get registered for some GREAT prizes and while you are there, meet our SPECIAL GUEST from 6-8 PM, IPW Professsional Wrestler, Latin Thunder, will be in the house, posing for pictures for all his fans!

Qualifying begins Friday June 5 at 6:30 PM, with the green flag waving at 7:30 PM.. For more information on the Big 8 Late Model Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet, please visitwww.big8series.com.

Thanks to Liz Girl Logistics and hibu, admission prices for this event are just a couple dollars higher than a normal Friday night show!  Adults(18-61)  $12, Seniors (62+) $7, Students (13-17) $5, and Children 12 and under are FREE.

Some interesting point battles are shaping up in the local Hy-Vee Racing series Divisions as drivers and crews head into the fifth week of the season but there are drivers in three divisions that have three-week win streaks on the line.

Nathan Ballard has three wins in Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks, Dave McCalla has visited victory lane three times in Mountain Dew Sportsmen, and Brady Fox-Rhode is three for three in Dublin City Pub INEX Legends.

Kurt Bohnsack has a narrow lead over Dallas Chandler  in Miller Time Hornets heading into Friday night. Bohnsack has won twice and Chandler once in that division.

Hawkeye Downs and Hy-Vee have again teamed up to offer a new and improved concessions menu this season along with the return of Pepsi Products for 2015. Your favorite adult beverages are available as well with two-for-one Tallboys from 6-7pm.!
