DOBMEIER’S 6TH WIN WORTH $7000

| August 28, 2016

Brandon, SD (August 27, 2016) – Mark Dobmeier is $7000 richer after an incredible run in the Dollar Loan Center 410 Outlaw Sprint Car feature. The Grand Forks, North Dakota, driver came from the sixth starting position to earn his sixth win of the season at Badlands Motor Speedway.

Normally, the Saturday night winner’s check is $5000. However, BMS owner Chuck Brennan announced the “Wet Track Bonus” of $2000 to EACH of the top five finishers in advance of 410 heat races.

Overnight rains made it difficult to keep up with the track through the heat races. The A Main was a different story, altogether.

Austin McCarl and Matt Wasmund started on the front row, with McCarl leading the opening laps.

It didn’t take long for Clute, Texas, driver Aaron Reutzel to grab the lead from McCarl though. Reutzel started fourth.

Dobmeier began his march as the leaders raced through slower traffic. He gained the lead on lap 15.

Reutzel got close to Dobmeier on a couple of occasions as the leaders had to carve their way through the field, but Dobmeier never relinquished the top spot. The feature ran free of cautions.

“We seem to do better on those long runs like that. It was elbows up! I can’t say enough about the track crew. They did a heck of a job tonight,” Dobmeier said.

Also taking advantage of $2000 “Wet Track Bonus” checks were Aaron Reutzel ($4500 for second), Austin McCarl ($4000 for third), Justin Henderson ($3500 for fourth) and Thomas Kennedy ($3250 for fifth).

Three different drivers led the Brandon Taco John’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Feature. Flandreau, South Dakota’s Matt Ziebarth started outside pole and raced out front for the first nine laps.

Fellow Flandreau driver Elliot Amdahl passed Ziebarth in three on lap 10.

Amdahl was less than two laps from victory when he struck the outside wall on the back stretch. The car bicycled along the wall before entering into a series of flips and then coming to a rest in turn three. Amdahl was able to walk away from the accident which put Colin Smith in the lead.

Smith led the field through the green/white/checker finish for his first win at BMS this season.

“This is the best feeling I’ve had all year here,” Smith said. “I don’t want what happened to Elliot to anyone, but I’ll take it,” he said of his win.

The Late Model Street Stocks took center stage as the evening’s final feature. Pole sitter J.J. Zebell of Parker, South Dakota, had Shaun Taylor in tow for all of the six laps that he led.

Taylor had been looking to the outside to get by Zebell, but a change of lanes gave the Brandon, South Dakota, driver the winning formula.

Once grabbing the inside line, Taylor and Zebell ran door-to-door for a lap before Taylor put Zebell behind for good.

There was plenty of shuffling in the field from third through ninth, but Taylor and Zebell had mostly checked out.

Taylor’s win was his third at BMS this year.
