DAVENPORT, Ia. (April 18, 2014) – A top-notch field of super late model stock cars were on hand Friday night for the Midwest Sanction Showdown. When the checkered flag flew, Bloomington, Ill., driver Jason Feger was standing in victory lane. The victory was Feger’s second in two appearances on the Davenport Speedway half-mile track.

The event was co-sanctioned by the Cornbelt Clash Late Model Series and the MARS DirtCar Series.

The forty lap main started with Wisconsin native Jimmy Mars taking the early lead from the pole. On lap ten, Feger was able to work his way past Mars and Muscatine racer Brian Birkhofer as they battled for the top spot. Feger led the remainder of the race despite two yellow flags that brought the field to his rear bumper.

Birkhofer was able to get around Mars and finish second. Mars took third over Chad Simpson and Jason Utter. Ryan Gustin crossed the stripe in fourth, but was too light at the scales.

Late model heat race wins went to Brad Looney, Jesse Stovall, Gustin, and Mars. Justin Kay and Terry Phillips won the B-Mains. Jimmy Mars also won the fast dash.

Drivers from five states took part in the event, which paid $3,500-to-win.

Jason Bahrs captured the win in a dramatic Modified feature. Bahrs started in the fourth row and slowly reeled in race leader Brandon Durbin. By lap fourteen, the fight was on for the lead. Bahrs tried to pull a slide job on Durbin for several laps before finally making the move stick on lap 18. Bahrs led the last two laps en route to the win.

Durbin would have to settle for second. A four-way battle for third would go to Bob Dominacki over Kenny Kostenbader, Kelly Meyer, and Eric Barnes, in that order.

Donnie Louck topped the Street Stock 15-lap main. Steve Jackson jumped out to the early race lead with

Louck coming to the front on lap three. Jackson tried to re-take the lead on lap ten, but left his drive shaft on the frontstretch. At the checkers, Louck was out in front with Cary Brown second, Chad Coyne third, and Cord Williams fourth.

Next Friday, April 25th, the racing action returns to the quarter-mile oval for the Koehler Electric Season Opener. The battle for the 2014 track championships will begin in all five weekly classes at the Davenport Speedway.
