FUN AUCTION SEPT. 15 IN KNOXVILLE BENEFITS DIRT LATE MODEL, SPRINT CAR HALL MUSEUM

KNOXVILLE, IOWA – Sept. 13, 2018 — Race teams and fans are encouraged to donate items to the annual fundraising auction in Knoxville, Iowa, Sept. 15, as part of the 15th annual Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals festivities, presented by Casey’s General Stores. Proceeds from the auction that starts at noon on the second floor of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum, benefit that venue, and the Dirt Late Model Museum in Kentucky.

Iowan and past NSCHoF&M President Kathy Krafka Harkema coordinates the auction, together with NSCHoF&M staff. This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of the late Jim Rasmussen of Hazelton, Iowa, a longtime auction volunteer who passed away in October 2017.

Former late model driver Lynn Richard of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, conducts the auction with his team from Steffes Auction. The fast-paced auction features interviews with current and retired drivers, and other racing celebrities, while selling items to benefit the non-profit museums and promote late model and sprint car racing and preserve their history.

Anyone can donate to and attend the fundraiser.

“We encourage drivers to donate items to help promote their team, photographers and other artists to share their creative work, and in turn, raise much-needed money for the dirt late model museum,” Krafka Harkema, said. “Autographed door panels, hoods, caps, apparel, photos, diecast and home décor are always big hits with auction supporters,” she said.

Early donations include items autographed by drivers taking part in the 2018 Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals, racing-themed holiday décor, and gift baskets wine-loving race fans are sure to love, created and donated by emcee Kathy Krafka Harkema. Spectacular racing prints by photographer Dennis Krieger of Dennis Krieger Imagery of Iowa are also expected to delight buyers.

“This is a fast-paced, fun fundraiser that race fans from across the USA and Canada love being a part of every year,” Krafka Harkema said. “Jim Rasmussen rounded up most of our auction items for years. We’re really going to miss him, and that’s why we need everyone’s help to round up donations in his memory to help make this year’s event another success.

Join the fun and help raise thousands of dollars for two great non-profit museums, while adding to your own collection of racing memorabilia or getting head start on your Christmas shopping.
