DAVENPORT, Ia. (September 12, 2015) – For the second night of the Diercks – Iowa Governor’s Cup, the racing moved to the half-mile track. The driver with the best average finish in each class was crowned the Iowa Governor’s Cup champion.

Brian Harris returned to victory lane at his hometown track in Corn Belt Clash Late Model action. Harris led the final twenty-five laps en route to the win and a $5,000 payday.

The race had a look of attrition. Ray Guss Jr. led lap one and then dropped out. Chad Simpson took over the lead, but on lap 15, he dropped out when his car started smoking. Justin Kay, Jason Utter, and Rob Moss all dropped out of the race while in the top five.

Harris took the lead when Simpson pulled in and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Jason Rauen ran in the top five all race and finished second. Wisconsin racers Paul Parker and Nick Anvelink finished third and fourth respectively. Davenport’s Spencer Diercks rounded out the top five.

Harris’ victory on Saturday and third place on night one earned him the Iowa Governor’s Cup championship.

Brad Dierks was perfect on the weekend. Two heat race wins, two feature wins, and one Iowa Governor’s Cup title, were awaiting the modified racer from Clarence, Iowa.

Dakota Hayden held the early lead of the Modified feature, before yielding to Justin Kay on lap four. Kay held the top spot until a lap ten restart. Dierks pulled a slide job on Kay and led the rest of the way to the checkers.

Kay would finish second, with Bruce Hanford third. Dakota Hayden and Greg Durbin were fourth and fifth respectively.

Perry Gellerstedt needed a good finish to be in the hunt for the Iowa Governor’s Cup championship. He got just that. Perry held of a charging Rob Henry to take the Street Stock feature win and the Iowa Governor’s Cup. Henry finished second, followed by Joe Bonney, Rob Nylin, and Cary Brown, in that order.

Jacob Waterman passed Zach Maurer to collect the win in the SportMod feature. Ross Neal would also pass Maurer to finish second. Maurer held on for third, with Cameron Goben and Jared Waterman completing the top five.

Neal claimed the Governor’s Cup title with a second on the half-mile and a win on the quarter-mile.

Sean Fersch won both the heat and feature in the 4-Stock class Saturday. However Brandon Setser’s second place finish combined with Friday’s win, earned him the Iowa Governor’s Cup title. Brendon Schulthies scored a third place finish, followed by Rob Harding Jr. and Richard Dearborn.

The final event of the 2015 racing season at the Davenport Speedway will be the Night of Destruction on Saturday, September 19th. Cheater Races will be held in the modified, street stock, sportmod, and 4-stock classes. The highlight of the evening will be the always exciting Trailer Race.
