I-35 Speedway 9-19-20 Recap

| September 21, 2020

I-35 Speedway hosted one hundred and thirty competitors for super competitive racing on Saturday September 19, 2020 on Casey’s Bud Wilson Memorial Night at the Races.  Fans got to enjoy 28 races, the best quality and quantity for your racing admittance.  As the sun set, the cool air brought out the horsepower and competitive spirit of the drivers who would go three and sometimes four wide for the win.

Opening the night’s events would be the E Mods and what a finish!  Out of four coming to the green side by side were Kameron Hanes, Casey Burnett, and Michael Taylor III.  And the winner was Kameron Hanes by .185 of a second over Burnett, and .693 over Taylor.  What a finish!

Next to take the track were the $1,200 to win 20 competitor field Pure Stocks.  Taking the early lead was Brandon Dixon.  Then for a few laps it was Mich Ross taking the lead and appearing that he had the field covered.  A series of yellows and coming from the back of the field was Luke Ramsey who raced Ross for a couple of laps before pulling away for the big payday.

The ever-growing Sport Compact class was led to the green by John Willard and David Miller.  These two drivers have accounted for 16 wins at the drop of the green.  Willard goes on to collect his 14th win.

The Late Model early leader was Michael Taylor Jr. but point leader Kerry Davis made his presence felt and took the lead and win number 15 for the year.  Tommy Cordray, 2019 Champion, came home second.

Stanley Kreisel has been a multiple time winner in the Midwest Lightning Sprints.  On this night is was a race between him and Chase Fischer.  For several laps they battled with Fischer taking the win.

The USRA B Mods was another stellar field of USRA competitors. This was a race between Kris Jackson and Luke Phillips.  Lap after lap the race was on.  Jackson leading and Phillips trying different lanes trying to make the pass.  This continued for all 15 laps with the margin of victory only .744 of a second.  In the end it was Kris Jackson, who has made four trips to the famous high banks of I-35 Speedway and now has collected three wins for the season.  Jake Richards was third and Lonnie Hibner fourth.

The USRA Stock Cars started off with a foursome of Mich Ross, Doug Keller, Jeff Dixon, and Blake Peeler in a tight battle for the lead.  Eventually Ross would take the point but as the laps were winding down pressure would be applied by Keller.  Coming to the checkered it was Keller with the win, Ross spinning to the infield, Dixon claimed second, Peeler third, and Brad Whitney came home fourth.

USRA Modifieds was a two-man battle between Tyler Hibner and Terry Schultz on the initial laps.  Hibner had late problems and Schultz took the win.  Ed Noll came home second followed by Chris Mercer and Paden Phillips.

Racing continues at I-35 Speedway on September 26, 2020.
