John Hall Racing thwarted by weather again

MARION, IOWA (April 22, 2012) — John Hall and his Left Turn Enterprises Racing Team have high hopes for the 2012 racing season. However, Mother Nature seems to have other plans. The season opener at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, was washed out on Saturday, April 21, just as the first flight of cars was about to push onto the track to start the evening. That put Hall’s plans to start his 25^th season of racing at the Sprint Car Capitol of the World on hold for another week.

With a field of 23 sprint cars ready to compete in the 360 division, Hall drew an early number for his qualifying group. But while skies had been cloudy and conditions cool for most of the day, no one really saw the pop-up rain shower coming. It built up over the speedway just as the night was about to begin and while track crews made a valiant effort, it rained too hard for the dirt track to be saved. The rain started in around 6:45 p.m. and the races were called off about an hour later.

It was the second week in a row that wet weather intervened. The team kicked off the season at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Saturday, April 14, with the Sprint Invaders Association. A second-place finish in his heat race qualified Hall for the dash and the A-Main. But with weather approaching, race officials canceled the dash and had a few laps run in the B-Main when rain halted the program. That race has been rescheduled to July 3.

The team will try again for another run this Saturday, April 28, at Knoxville, where Hall earned the Rookie of the Year title in the 360 division in 1988. Hall will once again run a Maxim Chassis with Parker Engines. The car is owned by Charles and Doris Hall.
