Joldersma Wins Stew Hansen Stock Car Shootout

STUART, IA (June 24, 2012) – Fans, racers and crews returned to Stuart Speedway to enjoy some great side by side racing and they would not be let down! Nick Roberts, Brandon Pruitt, Todd Shute, Jeff Joldersma and Andy Forcht were the winners on Stew Hansen Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler Night at the Races. Night #7 of the racing season brought a draw/redraw format, $400 to win Hobby Stocks, Sportmods and Modifieds and thanks to Stew Hansen Dodge the Stock Cars were $1000 to win. Anticipation was heightened to say the least!

IMCA Northern Sportmods were the first feature to hit the track with Jake Strayer and Dan Swank drawing the front row. Strayer took the lead early with Rick Ringgenberg following in second and Mike Pruitt third. Pruitt would move past Ringgenberg for second on lap four with Clint Luellen moving into third a lap later. Strayer held the lead through a couple of cautions with Pruitt and Luellen staying close behind him. While the top three stayed the same, the rest of the field was getting shaken up on every lap, mostly by eleventh starting Nick Roberts. The #23jr DeeZee Victory Chassis moved into fourth on lap nine, third on lap ten and second on lap twelve. A caution on lap twelve brought Roberts up behind Strayer to set up a dash to the finish. Roberts snuck by Strayer on lap thirteen, only to be slowed by yet another caution for a wreck in turn four. Roberts now had two laps to hold off Strayer, and that wouldn’t be a problem as Roberts took his second win of the year at the Speedway. Strayer held on for second with Pruitt third, Luellen fourth and Austin Kaplan fifth. Casey Greubel, Kaplan and Jared Hansen were the heat race winners.

Next up was the IMCA Hobby Stocks with Brandon Pruitt and Matt Webb pulling the first two chips. Webb was strongest out of the gate, leading the first four laps on the bottom side. Pruitt dropped back some at first, but once he found some grip on the top he reeled in Webb and passed him on lap five. Webb held onto second until sixth starting John Watson moved past on lap nine. Watson set out to run down Pruitt, but it was not to be as the #10B Penetrator Chassis stayed strong to pick up his fourth win of the season in the caution free event. Watson would finish second with Dusty Van Horn third, Jason Kohl fourth and Aaron Rudolph fifth. Jamie Songer and Mike Hansen were the heat race winners.

IMCA Modifieds came out next with Todd Shute and Devon Havlik on the front row. Shute took the top spot right away with Randy Havlik and Devon Havlik right behind. Sixth starting Luke Wanninger moved past Devon Havlik on lap seven and into second on lap ten. Try as he may, Wanninger could not make much ground on Shute, and after lap twenty it was the #5 Victory Chassis leading all the way in the caution free race to pick up his first win of the year at Stuart. Wanninger took second with Jimmy Gustin third, Devon Havlik fourth and Josh Gilman fifth. Shute and Wanninger were the heat race winners.

Next was the race everyone came to see, the IMCA Stock Cars, for their 25 lap feature race. After a B-main, the field was pared down to 24 cars with Mike Nichols and Bryan Snell drawing the front row. Nichols took the point right away with Jeremy Gettler and Jeff Anderson right behind. Anderson passed Gettler for second on lap four and moved in on Nichols, drawing up beside but never closing the deal. While the front runners were having their own battles, tenth starting Jeff Joldersma was moving through the field, getting to third on lap seven by utilizing the bottom side of the track while most everyone at the front was on the top side. Joldersma moved into second on lap seventeen and took over the lead on lap eighteen when a lap car slowed Nichols a bit in turns three and four. Joldersma stayed true to the bottom of the track and it would pay off big, netting him his second win of the year and the check for $1000. Nichols took home second along with a new Hoosier race tire sponsored by JnJ Fabrication as the highest finisher that hadn’t raced at the speedway this season. Gettler finished in third with Anderson fourth and 22nd starting Marcus Fagan crossed in fifth. Nichols, Joldersma, Eric Rempel and Snell were the heat race winners and Nyle Godwin won the B-main.

6 Cylinder FWD’s were the last race with Andy Forcht and Riley Songer putting on a two man show. Just as in the heat race, Songer would lead every lap but the last one as Forcht put the heat on and took the lead just before the checkered flag to pick up his second win of the year over Songer. Forcht was also the heat race winner.

We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track on a hot and humid Sunday evening. Join us next week for Schneider Excavating Night at the Races. See you there!
