ALGONA, Iowa (June 28) – Two holiday traditions continue on July 4 at Algona Raceway.

The Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour presented by XSAN returns for a third straight Independence Day event. Fireworks follow the $1,000 to win, minimum $150 to start IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour feature Thursday evening.

Richie Gustin of Gilman was the winner at Algona last year. He’s yet to find victory lane during the 2013 tour but Gustin’s consistency has him on top of the standings, 13 points better than runner-up Mark Schulte of Delhi.

Feature winners through the first five tour events include Cayden Carter of Oskaloosa, Ryan Ruter of Kanawha, Darin Duffy of Urbana, Steve Stewart of Burlington and Jeremy Mills of Garner.

Also on the Independence Day card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, running for $750 and $500 to win, respectively, and all applicable points.

Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. at Algona. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.

Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12. Youngsters five and under get in free. Pit passes are $25.

From Algona, the Hawkeye Dirt Tour travels to Southern Iowa Speedway at Oskaloosa for a Tuesday, July 16 show. That feature also pays $1,000 to win and is a qualifying event for the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
