DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 30, 2017) – The long holiday weekend started out with a bang at the Davenport Speedway. Friday’s racing program kicked off the second half of the 2017 racing season.

Justin Kay was in familiar territory as he won the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature in just his second visit to the track this year. Dave Stichter, Joe Beal, and Brunson Behning each had a turn at the lead, before the midway point of the race.

Kay and Behning exchanged the lead a couple times before Justin put his car in the lead for good. Jeremiah Hurst would finish second with Behning coming home third. Chuck Hanna and Andy Eckrich completed the top five.

Behning and Joe Beal won the late model heats.

Stephan Kammerer scored a win in the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature. Kammerer used a lap thirteen restart to take the lead from Bruce Hanford en route to the victory.

Jordan Hicks led the first seven laps of the main, with Hanford leading laps eight through twelve.

Hanford would hold on to finish second. Kurt Kile took third, ahead of Bryce Garnhart and Matt Werner.

Jordan Hicks, Bob Dominacki, and Rick Ratliff won the modified heats.

Jeff Struck Jr. captured his second Koehler Electric Street Stock main of the season. Struck drove from his fourth row starting spot to the lead in the first two laps. Jeff kept the lead through a number of cautions.

Jesse Owen edged out Dwayne Smith Jr. for second. Randy Lamar and Nick Claussen finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Tony Olson recorded his fifth feature win in Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod action. Tony started eleventh and took over the lead on lap five. Jared Waterman gave Olson a challenge after a late race restart, but would have to settle for second. John Brandies finished third, followed by Jake Morris and Henry Carson.

Powder Puff races were the added attraction for the evening. The winners were Sandy Lamar, Tracy Waterman, Holly Gibbs, and Kaitlyn Behning.

Next Friday the weekly point racing action continues. Our guest class for the evening will be the American Iron Racing Series.
