Kyle Brown takes Mod Madness cash

DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 20, 2016) – Kyle Brown topped a stellar field of modifieds to capture the win in the IMCA Mod Madness 50, Friday night at the Davenport Speedway. The Madrid, Iowa racer started on the outside pole but could not pass pole sitter Joe Beal until lap 12.
Brown led the rest of the way to the checkers, but was not able to put any distance between himself and the rest of the field until the final ten laps. For his efforts, Kyle took home the $2,000 first place prize.
The remainder of the top five was an intense battle that saw a lot of three and four-wide racing.
Mitch Morris slowly advanced from eighth starting spot to finish second. Kelly Shryock got a high as second before finishing third. Jeff Larson spent the entire race in the top five and wound up in fourth. Darin Duffy completed the top five.
Modified heat race wins went to Kyle Brown, Brad Dierks, Mitch Morris, Cayden Carter, Corey Dripps, and Kurt Kile. Consolation race winners were Colt Mather and Chris Zogg.
Forty-nine modifieds were on hand for the event, that has yet to see a repeat winner.
Justin Kay was perfect in Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action. Kay won his heat race and led every lap of the feature. Rob Toland worked his way to a second place finish. Kevin Kile, in his first appearance at Davenport this year finished third. Thad Wilson benefited from a caution flag on the final lap to finish fourth. Stephan Kammerer rounded out the top five.
Jeremy Gustaf came home a winner in the Koehler Electric Street Stocks. Gustaf took the lead from Donnie Louck on lap four and never looked back. Louck held on to finish second. Cary Brown, Nick Claussen, and Chance Huston were third though fifth, in that order.
Doug Burkhead picked up his first victory of the season at Davenport, in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods. Burkhead led all fifteen laps of race that was slowed by caution only once.
Jarrett Franzen finished second followed by Jared Waterman. Tony Olson and Dan Anderson completed the top five.
Weekly point racing is on the agenda for next Friday, May 27th, at the Davenport Speedway. All weekly classes will be in action, plus 4-Stocks. It is also the first Kid’s Night of the season. Bike races will be held for the kids after the racing program has concluded.
