North Platte, Nebraska (April 8, 2017) – The racing action was red-hot on opening night at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Nebraska on Plains Equipment Group Night at the races. Starting the season off right by parking their hot rods in the winners circle were: Jeremy Frenier, Dillon Schultz, Mikey Dancer, Luke Wassom and Andrew Baumgardner.

Driving where they weren’t was Jeremy Frenier of Ft. Morgan, Colorado in the final laps of the IMCA Modified Feature to lead the way for the final five laps to claim the victory. Frenier started in the fourth row and was able to find the racing groove around the bottom of the oval to make the pass for the lead through lap traffic in the final 10 laps. Starting on the front row, Cozad’s Colton Osborn set a blistering pace from the drop of the green flag to pace the field for the initial 14 laps of the feature event after winning the Dash for Cash earlier in the evening. Osborn was able to stay in contention after Frenier passed for the lead to earn runner-up honors. Showcasing consistency throughout the feature event was veteran wheelman Jay Steffens of North Platte in earning a podium finish in third place. David Murray Jr. of Oberlin, Kansas and Sutherland’s Henry Henderson rounded out the top five finishers.

Leading the laps that mattered the most was Dillon Schultz of North Platte, in winning the IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature on opening night. Schultz was among the frontrunners throughout the feature event and took advantage of lap traffic to lead the final laps to earn the win. Taking advantage of the cards that were dealt to him, Gothenburg’s Jamey Kennicutt was the second place finisher in the feature event after starting off his night as a heat race winner. Showing no rust, experienced driver Tony Schultz of North Platte returned to racing after a hiatus to contend for the lead for much of the feature event to earn a third place finish. Kerry Jones and Adam Kackmeister, both of North Platte rounded out the top five finishers.

In one of the most exciting features of the evening, Mikey Dancer of North Platte wowed the hometown crowd by winning the IMCA Stock Car feature event. Dancer led the initial 11 laps before relinquishing the lead to Jeff Whiting of Gothenburg for the following six laps. When the white flag flew, Dancer saw an opening and drove back into the lead where he stayed for the final two laps to win. Jeff Whiting of Gothenburg kept it close, as he drove onto the podium with a runner-up finish. Working his way through the field to finish among the leaders, Casey Werkmeister of Maywood was the third place finisher after starting the 20 lap feature event in the fifth row. Jim Hagan of Lexington and Flying Farmer Kyle Clough of Wallace rounded out the top five in the feature event.

Starting up front and hitting the loud pedal for the whole feature event, Broken Bow’s Luke Wassom put on an awesome performance to win the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Wassom started on the pole and took the lead for good on the fourth lap and never looked back. Earlier in the evening, Wassom was the heat race winner as well. Forced to work through traffic from his fourth row starting position, Brady Weinman was able to earn a second place finish for his efforts. Starting up front and staying among the leaders for the whole feature event was Kearney’s Jacob Hagan with a third place finish after leading a few laps early in the feature event. Chuck Ledbetter of Loomis and Broken Bow’s Allyn Myers finished fourth and fifth overall in the feature, respectively.

Putting on a dominating performance, North Platte’s Andrew Baumgardner lead every lap of the IMCA Sport Compact Feature event.
