Macon, IL (May 7, 2016) – By the time the night was to begin, the event looked doomed. Dark skies and spitting rain threatened the event but the rain stopped and all but one feature was completed Saturday night. The $1,000-to-win Hornet Challenge was the only event not completed as Mother Nature unleashed a steady rain and made the 1/5th mile un-raceable.

The Sportsman and Street Stock divisions were both won by the same driver as Lovington’s Jeremy Nichols raced double duty and wasted little time dashing to the front and running away from the competitors in both divisions.

Tim Hancock is now 2-for-2 in B-Modified features at Macon Speedway as he easily handled the competition and the track conditions en route to the checkered flag.

The Billingsley Towing Modifieds was won by Dave Crawley, Jr. It was another strong showing by the former track champion as he opened the lead and ran and hid from the second place driver Brian Shaw. Shaw would break down on lap 17 and allow Cory Daugherty the chance to chase down Crawley for the second-straight feature event in the Modifieds.

The finish of the night came in the Pro Late Models division as Matt Taylor outlasted the charge from Dakota Ewing. Ewing nearly took the lead away from Taylor during the late stages of the race with an open-wheel slide job in the second turn but it would not hold cleanly and Taylor retook the advantage on the back straightaway and held onto the number one spot in the field. Earlier in the evening, Taylor re-set the fast time in qualifying, taking away the three-week record that was taken from him by Jake Little at 11.356. The new record stands at 11.235.

The Hornet Challenge will be rescheduled next Saturday night as part of a double-feature program for the 4-cylinders. Also, it will be Pabst Blue Ribbon Night with specials on PBR beer. A $2 happy hour will be held between 5:00-7:00. College students showing their school IDs will be admitted free.
