Macon Speedway unveils exciting schedule for 2014

| February 28, 2014

MACON, Ill. (Feb. 28, 2014) – Grab the seat cushion. Round up the kids. Macon Speedway is ready to drop the green flag for a 69th season of racing by doubling up the fun. The historic fifth-mile high-banked clay oval added another premier late model show and will also host NASACAR Night of Stars on two dates.

The season opener is April 5.

The St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 joins the Herald & Review 100 as high profile dates for late models. The St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 on May 1 signals the first appearance at Macon Speedway by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, considered the top national touring series for late models. Meanwhile, the Herald & Review 100 is July 10, when the UMP Summernational tour arrives for its traditional date at Macon Speedway.

The NASCAR Night of Stars I is set for May 26. Drivers will be announced at a later date. Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart makes an appearance in June for the Night of NASCAR Stars II. The Macon Speedway co-owner will bounce back from a broken leg that cut short his racing last season.  The date for NASCAR II will be set soon.

Since opening in 1946, Macon Speedway has become a fan favorite for its wheel-to-wheel, dirt-slinging and sideways action that brings fans to their feet. The UMP late models, UMP Billingsley Towing modifieds, UMP sportsman, UMP street stocks, UMP outlaw hornets, stock hornets and mini-sprints showcase the talented drivers who race at Macon Speedway. We will also debut the B-modified class that allows racers to battle in a class designed to reduce costs while generating great racing action. POWRi midgets and mini-sprints make six appearances at Macon Speedway, more than any other track. Macon Speedway also hosts the Midwest Big Ten Series for late models and street stocks. The series features a season-within-a-season with events at Macon Speedway plus race tracks at Lincoln, Jacksonville and Taylorville with the point fund and winners taking home big cash.

The action-packed, in-your-face racing excitement is just some of the fun. Combined with the CEFCU Kid’s Club on six nights, fireworks and  a monster truck show, Macon Speedway has something for the entire family.

The seventh annual Spring Fling season opener on April 5 features modifieds, street stocks, hornets and POWRi midgets and mini-sprints. Hit the concession stand for specials during Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Night on May 3. Bob Brady Dodge Raminator Night brings the monster truck to the speedway on May 24. Armed Forces Night is set for May 31.

The Mueller Distributing Miller Lite Beer Twin 50s highlight the schedule on June 14, when the late models and modifieds both race in 50-lap features. On June 28, the night ends with a fireworks show following the 95Q Firecracker 40s, a pair of 40-lap features for late models and modifieds. Skeff Distributing Christmas in July – Christmas for Kids Toy Drive is July 5, and Miles Chevrolet Night on July 12 is also the Fireman’s Ball, honoring local firefighters.

General admission is free for practice days on March 23 and March 30. The track is open for test and tune sessions from noon to 4 p.m. each day so race teams can work on their equipment prior to the season.

Racing runs every Saturday night through Sept. 27. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 7.  Macon Speedway is located nine miles south of Decatur on U.S. 51, then 0.6 miles west on Andrews Street, and south on Wiles.
